Job Location: San Diego, CA (Remote)
Overview

Varada Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented and versatile Technical Writer to support a government agency in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate will have experience producing a wide range of technical documentation—from manuals to presentations—aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Navy standards. You will work closely with engineers, logisticians, and subject matter experts to develop and refine content that communicates complex information clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop, edit, and maintain technical manuals, procedural guides, training materials, user documentation, and test/requirements documentation in accordance with Government standards.
  2. Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and design/drafting personnel to collect technical inputs and translate them into professional documentation.
  3. Draft and revise tactical doctrines, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to support mission-readiness and fleet training.
  4. Create and format high-quality content including executive summaries, white papers, PowerPoint presentations, and multimedia graphics.
  5. Provide writing support for proposals, including the consolidation and refinement of technical contributions.
  6. Analyze operational requirements and training needs to identify documentation gaps and improve information flow.
  7. Coordinate with internal Navy leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables are accurate and mission-aligned.
  8. Conduct quality assurance reviews of documents, ensuring compliance with relevant style guides and security protocols.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience
  2. Or Associate’s degree with 5+ years of experience
  3. Or High school diploma with 7+ years of directly related experience.
  4. Strong grasp of documentation best practices and familiarity with DoD/Navy technical standards.

  1. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within diverse and fast-paced teams.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp attention to detail.
  3. Ability to interpret complex technical material and translate it into user-friendly content.
  4. Proficiency in developing multimedia content and graphics for briefings and training.
  5. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Experience with Navy or DoD operational documentation is highly desirable.
  7. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, and technical illustration platforms.
  8. This position is contingent upon contract award.
