Job description

The Technical Writer will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Philadelphia, PA, by creating and maintaining technical documentation, including policies, procedures, strategic plans, and cybersecurity documentation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for writing clear, concise, and accurate technical content, ensuring that documentation meets high standards and aligns with the needs of the organization and its stakeholders. Additionally, the Technical Writer will present technical documents and strategic plans to executives, facilitating effective communication across teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Write and update policies, technical documents, strategic plans, designs, cybersecurity operations, and procedures.
  2. Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information and ensure technical accuracy in documentation.
  3. Review and revise existing documents to ensure they remain up to date and compliant with organizational standards.
  4. Develop and maintain clear and accessible documentation that supports both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  5. Present and explain policies, technical documents, and strategic plans to senior executives and leadership teams.
  6. Ensure documentation meets security, compliance, and regulatory requirements, particularly related to cybersecurity.
  7. Work with cross-functional teams to align content and streamline documentation processes.
  8. Support the development of training materials based on technical documentation.

Required Skills/Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree.
  2. At least 8 years of relevant experience in technical writing or a similar field.
  3. Proven experience writing complex technical documents, including policies, procedures, and cybersecurity documentation.
  4. Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, easy-to-understand content for diverse audiences.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  6. Knowledge of cybersecurity operations and relevant security standards.
  7. Proficient with technical writing tools and software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, or similar tools.
  8. At least a Secret level security clearance (required).
  9. Current IAM Level II certification or higher (required).

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  1. Experience working in a military or government environment.
  2. Familiarity with the U.S. Navy’s documentation standards and processes.
