Job Summary

Creates, develops, plans writes, and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication. This position conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical users and may also document engineering processes and specifications. This position uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures. This position is of moderate complexity, diversification or expense. Normally receives little instruction on day to day work, general instruction on new projects or assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
  • Confer with customer representatives, vendors, plant executives, or publisher to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publications.
  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Observe production, developmental, and experiential activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem‑solving and decision making.
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods or reproduction and binding.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related disciplines and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

In language official to country/province: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write detail, advance reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Basic math skills.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a general knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access and Adobe Systems.

Other Essential Duties

Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100 Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)
