Job Description
Creates, develops, plans, writes, and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web‑based publication. This position conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web‑based documents for nontechnical users and may also document engineering processes and specifications. The role requires a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures. The position involves moderate complexity and diversity, with little instruction on day‑to‑day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
- Confer with customer representatives, vendors, plant executives, or publisher to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publications.
- Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
- Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Observe production, developmental, and experiential activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
- Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
- Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods or reproduction and binding.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university in a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write detailed reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access and Adobe Systems.
Other Essential Duties
- Follow all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
Other Skills And Abilities
- Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen.
- Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…).
Other Qualifications
- US citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
- Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately +/- 10 %.
