Key Responsibilities:

The Technical Training and Qualification Specialist is a Houston-based Talent Development role responsible for delivering hands‑on technical training, supporting technician onboarding, validating qualification requirements, and helping ensure technician training is delivered consistently across the organization. This role supports technician training across multiple technical disciplines and may expand as new technician roles or training needs are developed.

This is a salaried Talent Development role focused on training, qualification, and technician development. While the role works closely with field teams, it is not intended to provide routine field labor, on‑call coverage, or work order support. Frequent travel to regions, sites, training facilities, test pad or equipment demonstration areas, and field locations is required.

  • Deliver hands‑on technical training for technicians across regions, sites, training facilities, test pad or equipment demonstration areas, and field locations.
  • Train technicians on technical tasks, procedures, equipment, and qualification requirements.
  • Evaluate, validate, and document technician proficiency in authorized task areas using company qualification cards, skills checklists, or other approved qualification tools.
  • Increase authorized evaluation responsibilities over time as technical knowledge, calibration, and role‑specific qualifications are completed.
  • Recommend approval to proceed or additional remedial training based on technician performance and established proficiency standards.
  • Deliver the hands‑on technical portion of new technician onboarding, including field‑based tasks, equipment familiarization, and required technical qualification activities.
  • Coordinate with HR, Operations, managers, and Talent Development to ensure technical onboarding requirements are completed.
  • Track technical onboarding progress and communicate readiness concerns or completion status to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Conduct train‑the‑trainer sessions for senior technicians and other designated field trainers, enabling them to train and internally qualify technicians on specific approved tasks after successful completion of requirements.
  • Review procedures, job aids, training content, videos, assessments, and qualification resources for technical accuracy and field relevance.
  • Provide field context, task steps, photos, tool information, and practical examples to support documentation and training development.
  • Update digital training records accurately and on time.
  • Track technician qualification status, onboarding completion, training activity, and related documentation.
  • Analyze training records and reports to identify gaps, trends, risks, and follow‑up needs.
  • Maintain required training documentation, qualification records, sign‑off materials, and supporting evidence.
  • Provide progress updates, reports, and recommendations to leaders across the organization.
  • Assist with implementation of scalable technician training and qualification plans across regions.
  • Support training delivery using mobile training equipment, fixed training facilities, equipment demonstration areas, and field‑based resources.
  • Partner with Operations leaders to understand field training needs while aligning priorities with the Director of Training.
  • Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
Requirements
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
  • Experience as a field technician or in a comparable technical role.
  • Ability to build credibility with technicians and field leaders through technical knowledge, professionalism, and effective training delivery.
  • Ability to train, coach, and evaluate others in hands‑on technical tasks.
  • Working knowledge of technical skills assessment, field procedures, safe work practices, and proficiency-based training standards.
  • Ability to determine whether demonstrated performance meets established proficiency standards.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate digital training records and qualification documentation.
  • Ability to analyze training records and reports to identify gaps, trends, risks, and follow‑up needs.
  • Ability to travel frequently to company regions, sites, and training locations.
  • Ability to work independently while aligning work priorities with training leadership and business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a senior technician, lead technician, field trainer, mentor, or technical subject matter expert.
  • Experience validating task proficiency using qualification cards, skills checklists, OJT documentation, competency assessments, or similar tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, and related field applications.
  • Experience supporting technician onboarding or field training.
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms, SharePoint, digital training records, or similar documentation and tracking systems.
