Description

We are ERock!

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates its highly flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce costs and decrease carbon footprint.

At ERock, our backup generators ensure that customers will never be without power, allowing their business to operate normally when there is an outage in the area. Our innovative approach provides customers with highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.

What you’ll do:

We are seeking an exceptionally accomplished, visionary, and highly strategic Chief Electrical Engineer to provide executive technical leadership and direction for all electrical engineering aspects across ERock. In this paramount role, you will be the ultimate technical authority, responsible for defining the long term electrical engineering vision, driving groundbreaking innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence and safety for our distributed generation and microgrid solutions. You will oversee the strategic development and implementation of electrical designs across all voltage levels (HV, MV, LV), ensuring robust utility integration, advanced protection schemes, and the cultivation of a world class electrical engineering team. This position demands a deep and broad understanding of power systems, a proven track record of technical leadership, and the ability to shape the future of our technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing executive technical leadership and strategic direction for all electrical engineering functions, aligning technical strategies with overall company objectives and market demands.

  • Defining and championing the long-term technical roadmap for electrical systems, ensuring ERock remains at the forefront of distributed energy technology, innovation, and intellectual property development.

  • Serving as the ultimate technical authority and strategic advisor on all complex electrical engineering matters, guiding critical design decisions, problem solving efforts, and technical risk mitigation.

  • Overseeing the strategic development and implementation of electrical designs for high voltage (HV), medium voltage (MV), and low voltage (LV) systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety.

  • Driving advanced strategies for seamless generation integration with utility grids, including complex interconnection agreements, grid stability analyses, and compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.

  • Leading the development and deployment of cutting edge protection and control systems, including advanced relay applications, substation automation, and cybersecurity for critical infrastructure.

  • Conducting and overseeing highly complex power system studies (e.g., transient stability, harmonic analysis, electromagnetic transients) to ensure system integrity and performance.

  • Mentoring, developing, and empowering a high performing electrical engineering organization, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous professional development.

  • Cultivating strong collaborative relationships with executive leadership, product development, project management, sales, and external stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives.

  • Representing ERock as a technical expert at industry conferences, regulatory bodies, and with key utility partners and clients.

  • Ensuring absolute compliance with all national and international electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., NEC, IEEE, UL, IEC, NESC) across all engineering activities.

  • Substation design expertise is highly valued, contributing to the strategic planning, design, and review of utility and customer owned substations.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; a Bachelor’s degree with exceptional, demonstrated executive experience will be considered.

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with at least 8 years in senior technical leadership roles within the power generation, utility, or distributed energy sector.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

  • Extensive, in-depth expertise in HV, MV, and LV power distribution systems, advanced switchgear controls, grid interconnection, and comprehensive knowledge of national and international electrical codes and standards.

  • Proven executive ability to manage a portfolio of complex engineering programs and strategic initiatives simultaneously, demonstrating exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Highly strategic, visionary, and results oriented, with a strong business acumen and the ability to translate technical strategies into tangible business outcomes.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing executive stakeholders, representing the company at industry events, and inspiring large engineering teams.

  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise level engineering design software, power system simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME), and project portfolio management systems.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of power electronics, protective relaying, SCADA systems, and cybersecurity best practices for critical infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and attract and retain top engineering talent.

Preferred Skills:

  • Possess an unparalleled understanding of the energy industry, power markets, and the future landscape of distributed energy resources and microgrids.

  • Demonstrate exceptional executive leadership, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to drive large scale technical and organizational transformation.
