Role Overview

As a Commissioning Technician (Electrical), you'll play a crucial role in the commissioning process, specializing in troubleshooting electrical‑related issues. This is a hands‑on field position responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of power generation equipment, switchgear, controls, and electrical distribution systems. Working alongside experienced commissioning leads and field service professionals, you will support the installation and startup of natural gas generators, low‑ and medium‑voltage electrical systems, and microgrid controls. This role is ideal for technicians who enjoy troubleshooting complex electrical systems, traveling to project sites, and seeing projects through from installation to successful customer handoff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform controls wiring terminations within Automatic Paralleling Switchgear, Control Panels, and Generator Units.
  • Conduct inspections and operational testing for both Low Voltage and Medium Voltage systems.
  • Support the cutover of electrical distribution to deliver power to customers via ERock switchgear equipment.
  • Collaborate on protection relay testing with third‑party testers under remote supervision.
  • Support initial testing, start‑up, and paralleling of 480V natural gas generators.
  • Serve as the primary contact for system control and electrical equipment operability.
  • Commission microgrids and conduct operational testing.
  • Meticulously document all commissioning activities using operational software to ensure accurate system operation records.
Basic (Required) Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in generator theory, AC/DC circuit theory, protection relays, and electrical troubleshooting practices.
  • Ability to interpret Electrical and Mechanical schematics.
  • Strong multitasking capabilities to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve objectives with minimal direct supervision.
  • Effective time management to ensure timely project completion.
  • Self‑driven and capable of working independently with remote oversight/support, meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and contributing to root cause analysis.
  • Proactive in suggesting and implementing procedures for efficient task execution.
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Project, Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point).
  • Willingness to travel during the week or, in unique cases, for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate profound knowledge of electrical power distribution and control systems design.
  • Possess mechanical systems experience.
  • Have technical hands‑on experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Have hands‑on experience with PLC systems (Deep Sea Electronics and AcSELerator).
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
