Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

TECHNICAL TRAINER II, EHS SAFETY

The Technical Trainer, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), trains and certifies SpaceX personnel at Memphis in safety, equipment use, and technical work. You deliver high-risk and operational safety training, keep courses current with process and document changes, and partner with EHS and the shop floor as the site moves from construction into production. This position reports to the Technical Training Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train and certify SpaceX technicians in high-risk and equipment-use competencies, including confined space entry, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) general awareness, energy isolation/lockout-tagout (LOTO), respiratory protection, crane operation and rigging, forklift, aerial platforms, work at height, hot work, excavation, scaffolding, and other site-required safety training. Enforce training gates: no verified competency, no high-risk task.

  • Deliver instructor-led and online training for SpaceX personnel, and for contractors, vendors, and visitors as required.

  • Partner with environmental health and safety so all training meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and SpaceX safety requirements and stays current with procedure and document changes.

  • Coordinate training equipment and third-party vendors, including rentals, so gear used for instruction is safe, available, and meets regulatory requirements. Hold vendor performance to standard.

  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve course materials, including presentations, hands‑on aids, student handouts, and assessments, for live and online programs.

  • Schedule and deliver classes against new‑hire, recertification, construction, and project‑driven demand so qualifications stay current and gaps close before they become missed qualifications.

  • Support the learning management system (LMS): assigns required training, keeps records accurate and audit‑ready, and maintains clean, actionable data.

  • Partner with production, engineering, quality, safety, facilities, construction, infrastructure, and subject matter experts to extract complex knowledge and stand up the training their work requires.

  • Walk the production floor and the construction site. Deliver and audit training at the point of work.

  • Monitor human error, quality, and safety trends related to training and implements solutions that demonstrate a downward trend.

  • Support standup of Memphis safety training through new‑building and infrastructure construction into operations, including orientation, task‑specific, high‑risk, and site‑specific training from mobilization through production.

  • Travel to other SpaceX sites as required to meet training demand.

  • Take extreme ownership of issues from start to finish. When an incident, quality escape, or missed qualification traces back to training, owns the training root‑cause analysis, corrective action, and verification.

  • Perform special assignments as required (for example, supporting process, equipment, or facility modifications in the field).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with confined space entry, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) general awareness, lockout‑tagout, respiratory protection, crane operation (including rigging), forklift, and aerial platform use.

  • 3+ years of training experience in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial safety environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience instructing, assessing, and working with cross‑functional teams.

  • Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written).

  • Completion of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30‑hour training program.

  • Experience in safety, technical training, construction (new building or greenfield standup), or infrastructure.

  • Experience developing training programs, materials, and student assessments.

  • Experience with learning management systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools, live training, personnel qualifications, and training records.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with production or construction processes, including workflow, a quality management system (QMS), safety, and software applications, and experience reading engineering drawings.

  • Experience enforcing training standards on live construction or manufacturing sites, including contractors and multi‑employer workforces.

  • Experience supporting internal, customer, or regulatory training audits.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support production, construction, and site priorities.

  • Must be able to travel to other SpaceX sites as required.

  • This is an on‑site role in Memphis, TN. Must be able to work in manufacturing and active construction environments, including walking the floor and site, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), and being present where training is delivered.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
