Job summary

Inductive Automation’s Technical Trainer I delivers beginner Ignition training, both in-person and virtually, and maintains Ignition certification. The role includes creating materials, offering support across the company, and traveling for customer sites and scheduled courses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of technical education experience.
  • At least 2+ years in classroom or eLearning delivery.
  • Ignition experience strongly preferred.
  • Able to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills.
  • Familiar with Python, Java, or C++.
  • Familiar with SQL.
  • Able to document processes and procedures.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Experience teaching programming is a plus.

  • Delivering customer facing beginner level Ignition training courses that effectively transfer knowledge and actively engage the students.
  • Delivering training courses both virtually and in person.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts to a non‑technical audience.
  • Preparing and cleaning‑up of classroom both virtual and in‑house.
  • Continuing to build Ignition knowledge beyond the ability to handle all customer questions in beginner classes.
  • Providing learning resources and guidance to employees throughout the company as needed.
  • Administering Ignition certification and assisting with any certification issues from IA staff or customers.
  • Assisting with other Training projects or tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

Technical Trainer I

Location: Hybrid - Greater Baltimore/Washington, D.C. Region

  • $80K – $87K

Based on the Sacramento region, the new hires minimum and maximum target salary for this role is $80k - $87k. This role will be paid hourly.

Inductive Automation’s ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Although it is not typical for an individual to start at the top end of the range for the position, compensation decisions are dependent on: the facts and circumstances of each case, work location, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs.

Overview

The Technical Trainer I is responsible for developing and delivering technical course material on the various aspects of the Ignition software, as well as maintaining Ignition certification. They deliver courses both in‑office and virtually on a regular basis. The Technical Trainer I also provides technical help throughout the company and may help other divisions through various training tasks. This is a full time position with in‑person, hybrid or remote opportunities available. Travel for this position is required. Must be able to deliver uninterrupted 5 day courses both locally and at customer sites, and be able to travel for scheduled off‑site courses.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technical or Instructional field OR at least 4 years of relevant technical education experience
  • 2+ years experience with classroom and eLearning instructional development or delivery
  • Experience with Ignition is strongly preferred
  • Must be able to convey a large variety of technical concepts clearly and succinctly
  • Positive interpersonal and communication skills, including writing and speaking skills
  • Familiarity with a programming language (Python, Java, C++, etc)
  • Familiarity with SQL
  • Ability to write effective documentation for processes and procedures
  • Enthusiasm for teaching
  • Experience teaching programming classes is a plus
