Job summary

Inductive Automation is seeking a Senior Product Designer I to own the design lifecycle for a defined area of the Ignition platform. You will partner with product management and engineering to translate problems into production-ready design solutions, leading reviews and removing blockers with proactive collaboration.

• 3-5 years of professional product design experience with a shipped product portfolio.
• Experience designing complex, stateful software end-to-end with strong autonomy.
• Excellent communication, and ability to lead reviews and cross-functional sessions.
• Ability to drive solutions when requirements are unclear and to mentor others.
• Proficiency in data visualization, complex workflows, or accessibility considered a plus.

Job description

The Senior Product Designer I is part of a highly visible agile product development team, owning the design lifecycle for a defined product area of the Ignition platform. Partnering with product management and engineering, they translate defined problems into well-specified design solutions and carry them through production. This role operates with some autonomy and is expected to lead reviews, resolve blockers, work collaboratively and escape issues as-needed. This is a full-time role with remote, hybrid, and onsite opportunities available.

Responsibilities

• Owning the design lifecycle for your product area: research, grooming, validation, and iteration
• Independently producing and communicating high-quality, production-ready work with strong autonomy, without sacrificing quality or delivery speed
• Consistently considering the holistic user experience and all potential states (errors, successes, dead-ends)
• Applying Inductive Automation's design systems, identifying gaps, and proposing additions or improvements
• Contributing to medium-to-large features that cross team or department boundaries, negotiating scope and technical tradeoffs with engineering and product partners
• Sharing work early, leading reviews of your own work with clarity, and giving specific, actionable feedback on peer's work
• Escalating problems when definitions are unclear, and driving forward when they are merely incomplete
• Picking up unowned or undesirable work, and improving shared tools and processes for the whole team
• Contributing perspective on design direction in your area, and flagging decisions that conflict with broader product goals
• Staying current on design tools and paradigms, and sharing what is actually useful with the team
• Mentoring junior designers through direct feedback and pairing, and contributing to hiring when asked

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience as a professional product designer with a portfolio demonstrating shipped, production work, including your role in research, iteration, and final outcomes
• Experience designing complex, stateful software end-to-end, with strong autonomy and without sacrificing quality or delivery speed
• Excellent communication skills, including leading design reviews and cross-functional sessions, presenting complex decisions accessibly, and giving direct, useful feedback
• Confidence to drive solution definition when requirements are incomplete, with the judgment to escape when they are too ambiguous to proceed
• High proficiency in at least one technical area, such as data visualization, complex workflows, or accessibility
• Proficient in Figma, including building and maintaining design systems, and managing complex components across multiple projects
• Ability to quickly prototype design ideas through mockups, interactive prototypes and wireframes
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineering and other stakeholders on multi-person or cross-team projects, including negotiating scope and technical tradeoffs

Preferred But Not Required

• Bachelor's degree in Design, or related field
• Experience independently planning and conducting user research, and turning findings into design decisions
• Actively experimenting with generative AI in your design practice, with concrete examples of What is and is not working to improve your process or output
