Job description

The Technical Team Lead provides overall technical leadership for a multi-vendor program to implement, integrate, and stabilize a Fleet Management System (FMS), a Tooling Management System, and a Repair/Maintenance Management System supporting the company's electrical construction operations. This role is the single point of technical accountability across the program: it sets the integration architecture and technical standards, leads the Lead Architect and Business/Systems Analysts, and coordinates the technical delivery of multiple third‑party implementation vendors so that the three systems function as one coherent, reliable operational platform. The Technical Team Lead partners closely with the Project Manager, who owns schedule, budget, and stakeholder communication, while the Technical Team Lead owns technical direction, solution quality, and cross‑vendor integration outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for the program, translating business requirements into a coherent technical strategy across the fleet management, tooling, and repair systems.
  • Define and own the overall solution and integration architecture, ensuring the three systems share consistent data models, master data, and business processes.
  • Establish technical standards, integration patterns, and governance (APIs, middleware, data exchange formats, security, and environments) that all vendors must follow.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and design gaps early, and drive them to resolution before they impact schedule or go‑live readiness.
  • Present technical status, decisions, and trade‑offs to program sponsors and steering committee as needed.
  • Provide day‑to‑day technical direction to the implementation teams from the fleet management system vendor, the tooling system vendor, and the repair/maintenance system vendor.
  • Review and approve each vendor's technical design, configuration, and customization decisions for alignment with the overall program architecture.
  • Facilitate technical working sessions across vendors to resolve integration conflicts, sequencing issues, and shared dependencies (e.g., asset IDs, work order handoffs, parts/inventory data).
  • Hold vendors accountable to technical deliverables, integration test results, and data quality standards defined for the program.

Systems Integration

  • Design and validate the end‑to‑end integration strategy connecting the fleet, tooling, and repair systems (and, where applicable, ERP, telematics, and financial systems).
  • Oversee development and testing of interfaces, integration middleware, and data flows between systems to ensure accurate, timely, and auditable information exchange.
  • Define data governance and a single source of truth for shared entities such as vehicles, equipment, tools, work orders, and maintenance history.
  • Lead integration testing strategy (unit, system, and end‑to‑end) across all three platforms and their interfaces.
  • Provide direct technical leadership and mentorship to the Lead Architect, setting architectural direction and reviewing key design decisions.
  • Guide Business/Systems Analysts in requirements gathering, process mapping, and functional specification to ensure business needs translate cleanly into technical solutions.
  • Build a collaborative technical team culture, resolve technical disagreements, and ensure consistent design and documentation practices across the team.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Project Manager on scope, schedule, and risk, ensuring technical plans and vendor commitments align with the overall program plan.
  • Work with fleet operations, maintenance shop, tooling, and field leadership to validate that the technical solution supports real‑world operational workflows.
  • Coordinate with IT security, infrastructure, and data teams to ensure the solution meets enterprise standards for security, availability, and compliance.
  • Support organizational change management and training efforts by ensuring the technical solution is documented and explainable to end users and support staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role on multi‑vendor or enterprise system implementation programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading system integration efforts spanning multiple SaaS or enterprise platforms (e.g., fleet/asset management, EAM/CMMS, inventory or tooling systems, ERP).
  • Strong understanding of integration architecture and patterns: APIs (REST/SOAP), middleware/iPaaS tools, ETL, and enterprise data models.
  • Experience managing or directing third‑party implementation vendors/system integrators, including reviewing technical designs and holding vendors to delivery standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor technical staff, including architects and business/systems analysts.
  • Solid grasp of data governance principles, master data management, and data quality practices across integrated systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience working alongside a Project Manager in a shared program leadership model, with clear ability to separate technical ownership from schedule/budget ownership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in construction, electrical utility, field services, or asset‑intensive industries.
  • Prior hands‑on or oversight experience with fleet management systems (e.g., Fleetio, Samsara, Verizon Connect, GPS Insight), CMMS/tooling systems (e.g., UpKeep, eMaint, ToolWatch, Cordell), or repair/maintenance platforms.
  • Familiarity with telematics data, GPS/asset tracking, and maintenance scheduling workflows.
  • Experience with cloud integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services) and API management tools.
  • PMP, TOGAF, ITIL, or similar certification in project management, architecture, or IT service management.

Experience supporting organizational change management for field‑based, non‑desk workforces.
