Job summary

Performance Systems Development in Ithaca, NY is seeking a Building Support & Training Engineer to ensure external contractors adopt and effectively use our software tools that support program participation.

You will be the technical resource and SME for our energy modeling and program delivery tools, providing training, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of workflows for weatherization and building decarbonization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years in energy efficiency, building science, or related field.
• Experience with residential home performance, weatherization, HVAC, insulation, or building envelope contractors.
• Strong understanding of residential building science and energy efficiency measures.
• Experience using residential energy modeling software and interpreting outputs.
• Strong customer service and communication skills with experience in training/outreach.
• Ability to train adult learners and translate complex concepts.
• Willingness to travel within New York for site visits, training, and events.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical resource and SME for PSD's energy modeling and program delivery tools.
• Train, troubleshoot, and support contractor adoption of software workflows.
• Improve software workflows for weatherization and building decarbonization programs.
• Coordinate with project management, software development, outreach, and contractors to strengthen program delivery.

Description

The Building Support & Training Engineer is responsible for ensuring external contractors successfully adopt and use our internal software tools that support program participation.

The primary ambition of this position is to serve as the technical resource and subject matter expert for PSD's related energy modeling and program delivery tools. This role will support contractor adoption, training, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of software workflows that support weatherization and building decarbonization programming.

This role serves as a key liaison between project management, software development, outreach, and participating contractors, providing training, troubleshooting, and ongoing support to strengthen program delivery. The position also contributes to contractor outreach, recruitment, and field support, helping to expand participation and maintain high-quality customer service.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in energy efficiency, building science, green building, or related field.
• Experience working for or closely with residential home performance, weatherization, HVAC, insulation, or building envelope contractors.
• Strong understanding of residential building science, energy efficiency measures, and home performance best practices.
• Experience using residential energy modeling software and interpreting modeling outputs.
• Strong customer service and communication skills with experience in training or outreach.
• Demonstrated ability to train adult learners and translate complex technical concepts into practical guidance.
• Ability to travel within New York for site visits, training sessions, and outreach events.
• Proficiency with software tools, data entry, and troubleshooting.
