Job summary

Messina Talent Advisors is seeking a Technical Support Specialist to serve as a technical resource and SME for our Sales team, customers, suppliers, and internal departments.

This role blends product and ingredient knowledge with hands-on documentation, supporting new product development and commercialization.

You will build technical documentation, assist on formulation challenges, and communicate complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in food/ingredient industry or related technical sales roles.
• Experience creating technical documentation for customers and teams.
• Knowledge of ingredient categories and formulations.
• Strong communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with supplier relationships and product development.

OVERVIEW

The Technical Support Specialist serves as a technical resource and subject matter expert supporting our Sales team, customers, suppliers, and internal departments. This role combines product and ingredient knowledge with hands-on technical documentation and customer support to solve application challenges, support new product development, and drive commercialization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as technical resource for Sales team, answering customer questions and supporting sales activities
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including Product Specifications, Technical Data Sheets (TDS), Ingredient Statements, Nutrition Facts Panels, and regulatory statements
• Support product development initiatives including ingredient selection, formulation creation, and commercialization
• Work directly with customers on ingredient applications and solve formulation/application issues
• Conduct technical presentations and customer meetings, explaining complex concepts to non-technical audiences
• Qualify and manage relationships with ingredient suppliers; resolve technical and quality issues
• Document and communicate vendor capabilities and customer requirements
• Make independent technical decisions to support product development and customer problem-solving

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years in food/ingredient industry, technical sales support, or product development roles
• Demonstrated experience with ingredient applications and formulation
• Experience creating technical documentation for customers and internal teams
• Direct customer interaction and technical presentation experience
• Knowledge of ingredient categories (proteins, hydrocolloids, sweeteners, functional ingredients, etc.)
• Strong technical communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Track record of taking ownership on projects, not just assisting
• Experience with supplier qualification and technical supplier relationships
• Examples of independent technical decision-making
• Ability to bridge sales, customers, R&D, and suppliers
