Job summary

The Sexual Violence Center in Savage, MN seeks a Victim Support Advocate to respond to the needs of people affected by sexual violence in Carver and Scott counties. This full-time, non-exempt role provides advocacy services including legal, medical, and crisis support, along with counseling and support groups.

You will conduct outreach, coordinate volunteers, facilitate support groups, and collaborate with county agencies to enhance services.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting survivors of sexual violence preferred.
• Ability to coordinate with community partners and agencies.
• Comfort with outreach, event planning, and volunteer coordination.

Responsibilities

• Respond to needs of people affected by sexual violence with advocacy services (legal, medical, crisis line, counseling).
• Conduct outreach activities and events to promote SVC’s services in Carver and Scott counties.
• Liaise with county attorneys, law enforcement, and partner agencies to improve collaboration.
• Coordinate and supervise satellite-office volunteers and interns.
• Facilitate at least three support groups per year and provide backup direct services when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of best practices for survivor support and work with diverse communities.

Savage, MN and on occasion trips to our Minneapolis office

Respond to the needs of people affected by sexual violence in Carver and Scott counties (primary and secondary victims) by carrying out advocacy services including legal advocacy, medical advocacy, telephone-based support, one-to-one counseling and support groups.

• Conduct outreach efforts and events to promote SVC’s services in Carver and Scott counties, including community and fundraising events.
• Liaise with stakeholders in response to sexual violence in both Carver and Scott counties to increase collaboration between SVC and government (including the county attorney’s offices, law enforcement, and corrections) and partner agencies.
• Coordinate and support volunteers and interns assigned to the satellite office.
• Facilitate at least three support groups per year.
• Offer direct services backup support, including crisis line support, individual counseling, legal advocacy, and medical advocacy support as needed.
• Have a working knowledge of strategies and methods of support for victims/survivors of sexual violence.
• Must be able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and marginalized communities.
• A strong commitment to social justice and the dismantling of all forms of oppression.
