Job summary

Trackline in Houston, TX seeks a Technical Superintendent to provide technical oversight and support for petroleum tanker vessels. Open to Chief Engineer or 1AE with tanker experience transitioning ashore, as well as experienced Technical Superintendents with strong seagoing background.

You will oversee maintenance, dry dockings, inspections, budgets, and vessel projects while coordinating with engineers, shipyards and management to ensure compliance with class, flag, SOLAS and MARPOL

Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer experience strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on knowledge of tanker machinery, propulsion, and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience with dry dockings, major repairs, and regulatory inspections.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and day-to-day engineering support for assigned tanker vessels.
  • Monitor vessel machinery performance, reliability, maintenance, and overall technical condition.
  • Troubleshoot issues with Chief Engineers and vessel management teams to minimize downtime.
  • Oversee planned maintenance, repairs, equipment upgrades, and vessel technical projects.
  • Coordinate and supervise dry dockings, shipyard periods, major repairs, and equipment overhauls.
  • Review maintenance requirements, technical reports, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Manage budgets, purchasing requirements, and contractor/vendor performance.
  • Support vessels during class, flag, regulatory inspections and audits; ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL and company standards.
  • Conduct vessel visits and technical inspections with marine, operations, HSSEQ, procurement and commercial teams.
  • Identify reliability issues and opportunities to improve vessel performance and operating costs.

Technical Superintendent – Petroleum Tankers

Location: Houston, TX

A leading international ship owner and operator is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to provide technical oversight and support for vessels within its petroleum tanker fleet.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer (1AE) with petroleum tanker experience to transition ashore, as well as experienced Technical Superintendents with a strong seagoing engineering background.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight and day-to-day engineering support for assigned tanker vessels.
  • Monitor vessel machinery performance, reliability, maintenance, and overall technical condition.
  • Work closely with Chief Engineers and vessel management teams to troubleshoot technical issues and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee planned maintenance, repairs, equipment upgrades, and vessel technical projects.
  • Coordinate and supervise dry dockings, shipyard periods, major repairs, and equipment overhauls.
  • Review maintenance requirements, technical reports, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Manage vessel repair and maintenance budgets, purchasing requirements, and contractor/vendor performance.
  • Support vessels during class, flag, regulatory, and other technical inspections and audits.Ensure vessels remain compliant with company standards and applicable class, flag, SOLAS, MARPOL, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct vessel visits and technical inspections and work closely with marine, operations, HSSEQ, procurement, and commercial teams.
  • Identify reliability issues and opportunities to improve vessel performance, maintenance practices, and operating costs.
Qualifications
  • Chief Engineer experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of tanker machinery, propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, planned maintenance, and vessel technical operations.
  • Experience with dry dockings, major repairs, troubleshooting, class requirements, and regulatory inspections highly desirable.
  • Previous shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent, Port Engineer, Fleet Manager, or similar role is advantageous but not required for a strong sailing candidate.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with vessel crews, management, shipyards, vendors, class, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for vessel visits, dry dockings, and other fleet requirements.
