Job summary

Lucid Motors is seeking a Technical Specialist of Battery Safety to enforce safety as the top priority across R&D and production. You will own HV battery safety requirements (RESS) and lead system-level analyses with traceability to test evidence.

The role drives regulatory readiness for global markets, interfaces with vehicle, pack, manufacturing, and service teams, and defines safety test plans while guiding CAE and test results into engineering decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 6–10+ years of experience in HV battery systems, functional safety, or vehicle safety engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with battery safety analyses (SFMEA, DFMEA, HARA) and requirements development.
  • Working knowledge of global battery safety and vehicle regulations (R100, FMVSS, CE, NCAP, UN38.3).
  • Experience using requirements or systems engineering tools such as CAMEO, DOORS, 3DX, FLOW, JAMA or similar.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex safety topics to non-experts.

Responsibilities

  • Own HV battery RESS safety requirements for all battery programs, including authoring, maintaining, and approving requirements in CAMEO and 3DX across PV, DV, and production phases.
  • Lead system-level safety analyses, including SFMEA, DFMEA alignment, HARA, and hazard breakdowns from L0–L4 with traceability to test evidence and field learnings.
  • Drive regulatory and compliance readiness for global markets, including R100, FMVSS 305a, CE Marking, EURO NCAP, UL 2580, UN38.3 and related legislation.
  • Act as the primary safety interface to vehicle, pack, manufacturing, service, and validation teams, resolving cross-functional safety issues.
  • Define and review battery safety test plans (R&D and DV), review test data, extract learnings, and cascade risks to DREs and leadership.
  • Lead thermal runaway safety topics, including detection logic, post-crash reactions, contactor and fuse responses, grounding strategies, and customer notification paths.

Weare currently seeking aTechnical Specialist of Battery Safety, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Battery Engineering.This roleis responsible forsetting the safety standards used both in R&D aswellproduction.Theapplicant should bring an organized mind coupled with the mental agility to enforce safety as our top priority without creating an environment too rigid for creative solutioning.

You will

  • Drive regulatory and compliance readiness for global markets, including R100, FMVSS 305a, CE Marking, EURO NCAP, UL 2580, UN38.3 , and emerging battery safety legislation.
  • Act as the primary safety interface to vehicle, pack, manufacturing, service, and validation teams , resolvingcross ‑ functionalsafety issues and ensuringtimelyclosure of actions.
  • Define and review battery safety test plans (R&D and DV), review test data, extract learnings, and rapidly cascade risks or concerns to DREs and leadership.
  • Lead thermal runaway (TR) safety topics , including detection logic,post ‑ crashreactions, contactor and fuse responses, grounding strategies, and customer notification paths.
  • Support manufacturing and service safety topics , including HV handling, storage, damaged pack response, labeling, MSDS, emergency response guides, and service manuals.
  • Maintain and present program safety dashboards , compliance status, and maturity tracking to stakeholders on a regularcadence.
  • Represent the company in industry working groups and standards committees (e ‑ mobility, PRBA, ZETA, UL), ensuring Lucidremainsahead of regulatory and safety trends.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers on safety methods,requirements ofquality, and system thinking.
  • Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

$166,500 - $244,200 USD

Compensation & Benefits: Lucid offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; paid time off; paid holidays, paid sick leave; and a401(k) retirementplan. Hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off.Eligible employees may alsoparticipatein Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program. Incentive and equity awards, if applicable, aredeterminedbased on individual performance, role scope, market considerations, and overall company results,in accordance withthe terms of the applicable plans.
