Job summary

GAI Consultants Inc. seeks a Civil Technical Specialist for its Pittsburgh, PA office. The role focuses on hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, hydraulic modeling, inundation mapping, and preparing reports and figures across stream/wetland projects, site design, and infrastructure upgrades with mentorship.

You will perform data collection, basic computations, and field investigations while collaborating in a team to meet client deliverables. Travel may occur 1–2 times per month.

Qualifications

• B.S. Engineering or other technical degree.
• Entry-level with mentored experience or supervision.
• Experience collecting data and performing basic computations.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic computations for design elements (channels, culverts, bridges, ponds).
• Use HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, and Hydraflow tools for modeling and analysis.
• Prepare summary reports and figures for analyses.
• Use AutoCAD and ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro to develop/edit drawings.
• Fieldwork for site reconnaissance and measurements.
• Collaborate with project team to meet deliverables.
• Occasional travel for site visits (1–2 times per month).

Job description

GAI is seeking a Civil Technical Specialist to work in our Pittsburgh, PA office. Primary responsibilities for the position will be to perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) engineering analyses, including hydraulic modeling and inundation mapping, and preparing summary reports and figures. The work will support a variety of projects including, but not limited to, stream and wetland mitigation design, civil site design, utility protection, and infrastructure upgrades and replacements. The position may also include performing civil engineering tasks such as E&S control, site layout, drainage design, and site inspections.

Job Duties:

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic computations for the design of channels, culverts, bridges, ponds, stream restoration, flood studies, etc.
• Use of the following software: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, Hydraflow Hydrographs, Pond Pack, TR-55, etc.
• Work on a variety of civil engineering projects including E&S control, site design, drainage design, etc.
• Use AutoCAD and ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro to develop new and edit existing drawings.
• Fieldwork for site reconnaissance and measurements.
• Technical writing to develop summary reports for analyses performed.
• Work in a team environment under a project or task manager to meet client deliverables.
• Work on more than one project at a time.
• Occasional travel (1-2 times per month) for project site visits.

Project and Task Management

• Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
• No managerial responsibilities at this level.

Management Responsibility

• Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
• Attains mentored experience from a licensed engineer.

Communication Skills

• Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership.
• Interacts primarily with internal project team members.
