Job summary

The Colorado Convention Center is seeking a skilled Technical Services Technician to operate, install and maintain facility audio, lighting, video and rigging systems for events. You will manage on-call stagehands and coordinate with the Technical Services Manager under the IATSE contract.

This position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to lift heavy objects, and experience with DMX, Dante, and consoles such as Yamaha CL5 and Grand MA.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in industry or related field.
  • Experience with audio, lighting, video and rigging systems.
  • Knowledge of sound reinforcement and stage lighting methods.
  • Experience with union contracts and collective bargaining agreements.

Job Title: Technical Services Technician

Department: Technical Services

Reports to: Technical Services Manager

Supervises: On-Call Stagehands

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Compensation: Compensation is defined by the collective bargaining agreement that governs this position. Current base compensation is $25.04/hour for the first 90 days. Upon satisfactory performance evaluation compensation increases to $37.28/hour.

General Summary:

This is a skilled labor position for the operation, installation, dismantle, repair and maintenance of facility audio systems, dimmable lighting systems, rigging and staging systems, and the set-up, dismantle of client provided audio, video and lighting and rigging systems. Staff must be able to operate and trouble-shoot computerized Audio/Visual systems and equipment. This position is also required to operate high-lifts, forklifts and other material handling equipment as requested. Additional responsibilities and tasks are assigned according to the needs of the client and the event. This position is governed by a contract between IATSE #7 and Legends Global.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review event documents to determine equipment and service requirements needed for events, and proceed to install and dismantle equipment as needed
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot facility audio, lighting, video, and production related equipment
  • Install and dismantle facility dance floor and stages over 48” in height
  • Operate and maintain CCC dimmable lighting and digital audio systems
  • Install event-related audio, lighting, video and rigging
  • Operate high-lifts, forklifts and other material handling equipment as requested.
  • Operate facility lifts for contractors/clients as directed.
  • Coordinate and supervise on-call stagehands
  • Make recommendations for needed supply/equipment purchases
  • Maintain inventory in appropriate storage areas
  • Complete timely and accurate data entry and provide event related labor/equipment/documentation to the Theatrical Services Manager or Lead
  • Track daily duties, review event related email and phone correspondence
  • Other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to, jurisdictional work for the building

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in industry or related field
  • Production of audio, lighting, video and rigging experience, required.
  • Knowledge of sound reinforcement and stage lighting methods
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices and procedures
  • Experience setting up and operating digital and analog audio mixers/consoles (Yamaha CL 5 equivalent)
  • Experience setting video projection systems, and stage, audio and lighting components
  • Experience setting, programming and operating stage lighting console (ION, ION xe, Grand MA)
  • Experience with related technologies- DMX, Biamp Canvas and Tesira, Dante, Lutron
  • Experience working according to union contracts and collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience with up and down rigging experience in arena, theatre and tension grid system
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to rig for an event in an arena, theatre or tension grid following industry standard safety protocols
  • Perform job tasks effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities required.
  • Ability to understand and execute based on floor plans, drawings, written specifications and oral requests, required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with clients and staff, required.
