Job summary

Abilene Public Library in Abilene, TX, seeks a seasoned professional to manage the Technical Services Division. You will oversee cataloging, acquisitions, and materials processing while guiding staff and aligning with the library’s strategic plan.

The role requires a Master’s in Library Science and a Texas driver’s license, with duties including budget oversight, vendor management, and Interlibrary Loan coordination. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of professional work experience in a public library with progressive responsibility levels is preferred.
• Two (2) years of professional work experience in Library Technical Services is preferred.
• Master’s degree in library science or information science required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of Technical Services including cataloging and materials processing.
• Prepare and manage division budget and oversee expenditures.
• Serve as main contact for Technical Services vendors (physical/electronic materials, databases, OCLC).
• Supervise, train and evaluate Technical Services staff.
• Oversee ILS and coordinate with Abilene Library Consortium on collection/system issues.
• Oversee Interlibrary Loan services and be main ILL contact with the state.
• Prepare monthly reports of division activities and maintain essential records.
• Develop vision and priorities for the Technical Services division aligned with the library’s mission.
• Operate City vehicle for travel to branches and other departments as needed.
• May substitute for the Director of Library Services when needed.
