Job description

The Key Account Manager – Level 2 (Sr. Sales Engineer) is a highly technical commercial role responsible for developing strategic partnerships with key customers by combining engineering expertise with consultative sales leadership.

This position serves as the primary advisor for assigned accounts, driving sales of products which improve customer manufacturing processes, increase operational efficiency, and optimize application performance through Habasit's engineered solutions.

The Key Account Manager – Level 2 works closely with Engineering, Product Management, Technical Services and Operations to design application-specific solutions, support complex projects, and drive sustainable business growth through innovation and value-based selling.

Sales & Engineering Support
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for assigned strategic customers by understanding their manufacturing processes, equipment, and operational challenges.
  • Evaluate customer applications and recommend engineered conveying and power transmission solutions that improve productivity, reliability, safety, and total cost of ownership.
  • Conduct product demonstrations, application assessments, troubleshooting, and process optimization studies at customer facilities.
  • Identify opportunities for product redesigns, upgrades, material improvements, and conversion projects.
  • Support commissioning, implementation, validation, and start-up activities.
  • Collaborate with Technical Services and Engineering to develop customized solutions for unique customer applications, including conversion from competition.
Strategic Account Management
  • Develop and execute long-term account plans focused on growth, retention, and partnership.
  • Build relationships across engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement, and executive stakeholders within customer organizations.
  • Identify expansion opportunities leveraging new production lines, equipment upgrades, automation projects, and capital investments.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, pricing strategies, quotations, and contract discussions while maintaining profitability objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive opportunity pipelines and account strategies using CRM tools (Sugar CRM preferred).
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Product Management on new product development initiatives and customer-specific application requirements.
  • Partner with Customer Care, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations to ensure successful project execution and product delivery.
  • Provide feedback and advice on product performance, customer requirements, competitive technologies, and market trends.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis, Continuous Improvement, and Voice of Customer initiatives.
Industry & Technical Leadership
  • Remain current on conveyor technology, polymer materials, power transmission systems, manufacturing processes, and emerging automation technologies.
  • Represent Habasit during seminars, customer training sessions, trade shows, and industry conferences.
  • Deliver technical presentations and educational workshops for customers, distributors, and internal teams.
  • Promote industry best practices, innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement throughout customer engagements.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and industrial equipment.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong consultative selling skills focused on solving technical and operational challenges.
  • Excellent presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts in a clear and practical manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience utilizing CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not typically supervise staff. However, certain assignments (e.g., Plastics) may involve direct responsibility for a Product Specialist or project teams.

This position operates in a professional office environment with frequent exposure to manufacturing settings and customer facilities. The role may include exposure to forklift traffic, equipment noise, and production processes.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for handling product samples and presentations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally (up to 40 lbs. in some assignments).
  • Required to safely operate a motor vehicle in varied conditions.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Evening and weekend work may be required to meet customer demands, project deadlines, or trade show schedules. Remote work may be available depending on location.

Travel

Extensive travel (up to 50%) is expected, including overnight stays for customer visits, trade shows, training, and business meetings.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Equivalent technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical sales, application engineering, industrial automation, conveyor systems, power transmission, or engineered industrial products.
  • Demonstrated experience providing engineering-based solutions to OEMs, manufacturing facilities, distributors, and/or industrial end users.
  • Proven success managing complex technical sales opportunities with multiple stakeholders.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in complex sales cycles and enterprise-level account management.
  • Strong knowledge of target industries (e.g. Material Handling, Automotive, Food, Engineered Products).
  • Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
