Job summary

Stella-Jones is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer (Utility Products) for our on-site team in Bellingham, WA. You will draft production drawings in AutoCAD, assemble bills of materials in SAP, and prepare quotes while coordinating with Sales and Engineering.

The role requires a Engineering degree and strong communication. You will collaborate with utility customers, support project quotes, and travel up to 10% for events and visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required; Civil/Mechanical/Structural focus preferred.
• Two+ years engineering work experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and customer specifications.
• Self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10% for industry events and client visits.
• Working knowledge of PLS and/or SPIDAcalc software systems (preferred).
• SAP or other ERP experience (preferred).

Position Overview

The Technical Sales Engineer (Utility Products) at Stella-Jones will play a critical role for the Sales and Engineering departments in Bellingham, WA. Responsibilities include creating production drawings using AutoCAD, managing bills of material, project quoting and problem solving with customers. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with excellent communication skills, proficiency in design software, and the ability to maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This is an onsite role (typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM) at our office and manufacturing facility in Bellingham, Washington.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create production drawings using AutoCAD for everything manufactured in Bellingham, WA, including document and data management.
• Create bills of material (SAP) and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), helping to create them as needed.
• Create presentations (PowerPoint) in support of Sales and Engineering initiatives.
• Support both the Sales and Engineering departments in Bellingham.
• Quote distribution crossarms and transmission framing components.
• Contact customers to discuss drawings and specifications.
• Engage in direct conversations with electric utility customers.
• Support the Engineering Department with distribution and transmission quotes, at the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Lead.
• Use SAP to support quote preparation for distribution and transmission projects.
• Quote smaller transmission projects from start to finish, with manager review of the final quote before it is returned to the customer.
• Provide technical support to customers and to other salespeople throughout the Stella-Jones Utility Products group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required; fields such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Structural Engineering preferred.
• Candidates should have applicable internship experience or relevant work experience in engineering, manufacturing, or a closely related technical field; Two or more years of engineering work experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD / 3D modeling software.
• Technical aptitude to interpret technical drawings and customer specifications.
• Self-motivated individual with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work cohesively in a team setting.
• Excellent time and resource management skills.
• Attention to detail, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10% to industry events, client visits, and tradeshows.
• Working knowledge of PLS and/or SPIDAcalc software systems (preferred)
