Job summary

Heller Industries, Inc. is seeking a technically minded professional to lead sourcing, negotiation, and purchasing of engineered components and services in a collaborative, multi-department environment.

You will review engineering drawings and BOMs, identify capable suppliers, and drive cost, lead-time, and quality improvements across global teams. A strong engineering background and hands-on procurement experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related technical field.
• Engineering or technical experience in a manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or engineered-products environment.
• Experience in purchasing, procurement, strategic sourcing, or supplier management.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing and procurement of technical components, materials, equipment, fabricated parts, and services.
• Review drawings, specs, BOMs to understand purchasing requirements and supplier capabilities.
• Collaborate with Engineering to identify suppliers meeting technical and quality needs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternative vendors to improve cost, quality, lead time and flexibility.
• Solicit and analyze quotations; negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and delivery requirements.
• Lead supplier negotiations using technical knowledge to identify cost drivers and value opportunities.
• Research new suppliers and markets to identify sourcing opportunities.
• Coordinate with global teams to resolve purchasing, technical, delivery, and supplier issues.
• Monitor supplier performance on cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, and capacity.
• Support cost-reduction and continuous-improvement initiatives through strategic sourcing.
• Maintain purchasing records, supplier data, quotations, and pricing.
• Independently manage priorities and risks; backfill spare parts inventory with warehouse.
• Support new product development by sourcing components and suppliers from concept to production.

Job description

This position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing engineered components, materials, equipment, and services while working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and other internal teams.

The ideal candidate combines a strong technical or engineering background with hands-on purchasing experience and understands how engineering requirements, specifications, quality standards, cost, lead time, and supplier capabilities impact the overall business.

This is a highly collaborative yet independently driven position. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of projects, identifying opportunities for cost savings and supply-chain improvements, developing alternative sources, and negotiating favorable commercial terms with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing and procurement of technical components, materials, equipment, fabricated parts, and services.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and technical requirements to understand purchasing requirements and supplier capabilities.
• Work closely with Engineering to identify appropriate suppliers and ensure purchased components meet technical and quality requirements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternative vendors and sources to improve cost, quality, lead time, capacity, and supply-chain flexibility.
• Solicit and analyze competitive quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, delivery requirements, and other commercial conditions.
• Lead supplier negotiations and use technical knowledge to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities for value improvement.
• Research new suppliers and markets to identify competitive sourcing opportunities.
• Work collaboratively with global teams to resolve purchasing, technical, delivery, and supplier-related issues.
• Monitor supplier performance, including cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, and capacity.
• Support cost-reduction and continuous-improvement initiatives through strategic sourcing and supplier development.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, quotations, and pricing data.
• Independently manage priorities, follow through on open issues, and proactively identify potential supply or cost risks.
• Support new product development and engineering projects by sourcing components and suppliers from concept through production.
• Work closely with the warehouse team to maintain and backfill spare parts inventory to support customer service requirements.
• Coordinate intercompany shipments based on production requirements from Heller production sites.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related technical field preferred.
• Demonstrated engineering or technical experience, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, electrical, or engineered-products environment.
• Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, strategic sourcing, or supplier management.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Strong supplier negotiation and commercial skills, with the ability to understand both technical and financial considerations.
• Proven experience identifying and developing alternative vendors and sourcing options.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to independently research suppliers, markets, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assignments and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office; experience with purchasing or sourcing software is a plus.
