Technical Program Manager -Data Center Consolidation & Cloud Modernization. This remote contractor will serve as the chief integrator for a multi-year transformation that consolidates data center environments, modernizes infrastructure platforms, accelerates cloud migration, and strengthens resiliency, cost efficiency, and operational readiness.
Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the Data Center Consolidation & Cloud Modernization strategic initiative. This role will drive the planning, governance, and execution of a complex, multi-year transformation focused on consolidating enterprise data center environments, modernizing infrastructure platforms, optimizing the virtualization footprint, and migrating appropriate on-premises workloads to cloud platforms.
The ideal candidate has led large infrastructure and platform programs and can partner effectively with Product Management, Architecture, Engineering, Operations, Security, Finance, application teams, and external vendors. The role may also assume selected product management responsibilities, including shaping strategy, defining roadmaps, prioritizing investments, and measuring outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Program Leadership
- Lead end-to-end planning and execution across data center exits, workload migration, platform modernization, capacity readiness, and operational transition.
- Establish integrated program governance, decision forums, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, and escalation paths.
- Maintain a multi-year roadmap that connects infrastructure modernization, cloud migration, facility exits, technology rationalization, and end-of-life remediation.
- Drive alignment across stakeholders and ensure interdependent workstreams operate as one coordinated program.
Cloud & Infrastructure Transformation
- Coordinate classification and migration of on-premises workloads using a structured approach such as the 7Rs, including migration waves, application-owner validation, and readiness criteria.
- Partner with technical teams on hybrid cloud, compute, virtualization, storage, networking, resiliency, disaster recovery alignment, and infrastructure capacity planning.
- Drive plans for platform transitions, equipment moves, infrastructure retirements, site decommissioning, and operational handoff.
- Ensure migration plans include testing, cutover, rollback, service continuity, security, and application validation requirements.
Product & Portfolio Management
- Partner with Product Managers and technology leaders to clarify the initiative vision, target outcomes, value proposition, investment priorities, and success measures.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable epics, milestones, roadmaps, and sequenced delivery plans.
- Support business cases and prioritization decisions that balance modernization, technical debt, risk reduction, resiliency, cost savings, and capacity constraints.
- Use stakeholder and operational feedback to refine priorities and improve the future-state platform and service model.
Stakeholder, Financial & Value Management
- Provide concise executive reporting on delivery health, financial performance, decisions, dependencies, risks, accomplishments, and upcoming milestones.
- Coordinate application and business stakeholders whose systems or services are affected by migrations, outages, testing, or facility exits.
- Track budgets, forecasts, vendor commitments, benefit assumptions, cost avoidance, and savings realization.
- Manage vendor and partner dependencies, including statements of work, deliverables, procurement timelines, and acceptance criteria.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience leading large-scale, cross-functional technology programs.
- Proven experience managing infrastructure, platform engineering, cloud, data center, or enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience migrating on-premises workloads to a public cloud platform; Microsoft Azure experience is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture, virtualization, compute, storage, networking, disaster recovery, operational readiness, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Experience building integrated roadmaps and managing dependencies across Architecture, Engineering, Operations, Security, Finance, vendors, and application teams.
- Strong executive communication, facilitation, financial management, risk management, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a platform or infrastructure product organization and partnering directly with Product Management.
- Ability to perform selected product management responsibilities, including roadmap development, outcome definition, prioritization, stakeholder discovery, and business-case development.
- Experience with data center consolidation, facility exits, infrastructure rationalization, merger or integration programs, and technology footprint reduction.
- Familiarity with VMware, Nutanix or comparable virtualization platforms, cloud landing zones, FinOps, capacity planning, resiliency, and end-of-life remediation.
- Experience operating in Agile, product, platform, or portfolio management models.
Success Measures
- Data center exit, consolidation, and infrastructure-readiness milestones are executed safely and predictably.
- Workload migration waves are delivered with clear ownership, validated dependencies, and effective cutover controls.
- Infrastructure complexity, unsupported technology, and operational risk are reduced.
- Cloud adoption, platform modernization, resiliency, and capacity outcomes progress against the approved roadmap.
- Financial performance and benefit realization are transparent and actively managed.
- Leadership and delivery teams have confidence in program visibility, decision-making, and execution.
