Job description

THE ROLE

AMD's Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group is looking for a silicon‑savvy technical program leader in the pre‑Silicon program management organization. This exciting role works with a team of senior program managers responsible for driving the execution of key development programs from concept to tape‑out.

Pre‑Silicon program management requires you to drive the execution of the entire product stack where deliverables come from different engineering teams/functions across AMD, including Product Planning requirements, Architecture definition, IP design/delivery, SoC Integration, Verification, and SW co‑development.

With a big‑picture view of end‑to‑end program plan and execution, you should coordinate and iron out dependencies among engineering teams to ensure all intermediary milestones are met and execution remains on track. Success of the program will be defined by meeting or beating the scope, schedule, and spend of the program.

THE PERSON

This person will be a hands‑on program leader, partnering closely with engineering teams to drive execution of a key portfolio of IPs across multiple SoC programs while actively contributing to cross‑functional initiatives on behalf of the program management team.

Able to communicate effectively at all levels, including presenting clear program status and insights to executive leadership. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead technical issues to resolution, adapt quickly in a dynamic environment, and collaborate seamlessly with global cross‑functional teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure programs follow their execution metrics and changes are tackled with agility and quick planning.
  • Has responsibility for projects or processes of significant technical importance and for results that cross engineering project areas.
  • Drive key initiatives to improve program management effectiveness.
  • Craft and deploy processes for strong rigor/discipline to constantly uplevel the execution focus and efficiency. Lead and drive these process adoptions across the overall program management org.
  • Create and maintain project management artifacts such as schedule, resource and resource forecast, risk and issues logs.
  • Provide unique views of project status updates and facilitates cross development team dependencies and communications.
  • Manage and handle escalations with a sense of urgency and proactive problem solving.
  • Prepare and present program status reports to executive and highlighting risks, data for pros cons analysis of decision making.
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment among different teams including the other program managers.
  • Share best practices with other product program management organizations.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience demonstrating that they can perform complex work involving new or constantly changing difficult problems.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of the principles of project management and can apply them effectively on small to large size projects.
  • Exercises outstanding initiative, judgment, and decision‑making ability in dealing with complex factors that are not easily evaluated for which there is little precedent on how to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrates they work independently to complete projects on schedule and will succeed when receiving general guidance on new assignments.
  • Achieves results through others and should have excellent skills working within teams and across organizational boundaries.
  • Depth and breadth in the related disciplines of silicon and SoC design development including RTL, Functional and Performance verification/validation, and Physical design.
  • Knowledge and experience with FPGA HW/SW development is highly preferred.
  • Ability to learn on the job.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • BS or MS engineering degree or demonstration of competency in several of these areas is required. In lieu of actual program management experience, a candidate could have technical or project lead experience in IC design or SoC development.
