Job summary

AMD is seeking an Engineering Program Manager in Austin to drive multinational, multi-discipline engineering initiatives from concept to execution for next generation AMD Client platform solutions.

You will lead a matrixed team, coordinate silicon, firmware and software elements, and manage end-to-end platform validation and delivery in a fast-paced tech environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Experience delivering complex hardware/software programs from concept to customer ship.
  • Strong background in cross-functional collaboration, budgeting and scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Own planning and execution of platform-solution engineering functions.
  • Align product deliverables with customer platforms to drive satisfaction and quality.

The Role

In this high-profile role, as Engineering Program Manager, you will drive a multi-national, multi-discipline engineering team responsible for key engineering initiatives from concept to execution for next generation AMD Client platform solutions.

The Person

The right candidate will have solid knowledge of technical program management, an outstanding track record of delivering sophisticated software/hardware programs, from Concept through Customer Ship, utilizing large, matrixed teams to plan and execute system level products. You will have a deep understanding of the technical challenges related to computing system solutions, which includes the interaction of silicon, platform, firmware and software elements. You are energized by working in a fast-paced technical organization and multi-site environment. You like to make a difference in the industry and are passionate about collaborating with business and engineering teams and our customers to find unique solutions to tough problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • The System Engineering Program Manager owns planning and driving the execution of platform-solution engineering functions to enable best in class customer solutions
  • Drives alignment between AMD business unit product deliverables and customer platforms to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and quality throughout the product lifecycle
  • Engages with technical and business leadership teams to understand and document program scope, establish integrated schedules, assess and manage program progress and risk, and manage resource and budget plans. Manage end to end validation and platform execution.
  • Represents the Client Systems Engineering organization in corporate planning and execution forums, including presentations to Senior VP’s and executive staff.
  • Supports the customer-facing engineering and business teams to set product maturity and schedule expectations, oversee the development and distribution of documented product collateral, and resolve issues.
  • Develops and shares best-in-class processes to streamline and grow the organization to meet new challenges
  • Engages with geographically distributed technical teams, works collaboratively and coordinates the activities.
Preferred Experience
  • Has driven product development with hardware platforms and related software ecosystem. Specific experience with x86 SOC products, firmware and PC industry suppliers/OEMs is preferred.
  • Breadth knowledge of x86 CPU/SoC/Chipset/Graphics architecture, firmware and experience in functional, electrical, power-performance or security pre- and post- silicon validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly and to lead technical teams
  • Problem solving capability with confidence to evaluate risks and tradeoffs and present solution options to executive leadership
  • Ability to influence horizontally across multiple internal functional organizations
  • Ability to understand and extract action plans from complex technical discussions and translate into succinct messaging tailored for varied targeted audiences
  • Ability to nimbly address business and technical changes throughout the program lifecycle both from an internal and customer perspective
  • Familiarity with budgeting, resource allocation, and long-range planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and executive level presentation skills
  • Analytical, self-motivated, organized, detailed-oriented and results-oriented
  • Seasoned in leveraging MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams or Confluence for clear communications and coordination of work.
  • Use of AI tools for project management activities
  • Familiarity with JAMA, JIRA and similar Systems Engineering requirements management and defect tracking tools.
  • Experience with Agile software and project development methodologies preferred
  • Self-motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative, situational and critical thinking problem solving.
  • Ability to network quickly and independently to align resources towards a common goal.
  • Ability to support limited domestic and international travel as needed
Academic Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Masters in Business Administration or PMI PMP® Certification is a plus.
