Job summary

Google is seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead end-to-end hardware platform bring-up for new devices, working at the intersection of hardware, software, and firmware. You will coordinate internal teams and external partners to deliver complex SoC bring-up programs from concept through production.

You will plan schedules, identify risks, and communicate trade-offs to executives, enabling device strategy and timely product launches globally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience managing the full product development life-cycle for consumer electronics (e.g., laptops, phones, tablets).
  • Experience working with System-on-Chip (SoC) vendors and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs).
  • Experience with hardware/software integration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead platform bring-up programs from early SoC partner engagement through device launch, overseeing validation activities for Proto/EVT/DVT/PVT.
  • Define and track comprehensive program schedules, milestones, and dependencies to align with PDP.
  • Collaborate with external SoC vendors and ODMs while aligning hardware, software, and firmware teams.
  • Identify technical risks and provide status reports and mitigations to executives.
  • Drive continuous improvement of bring-up methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience performing root-cause and failure analysis to troubleshoot complex hardware, software, or firmware integration issues during platform bring-up.
  • Experience managing programs using a structured Product Development Process (PDP) for computing devices.
  • Experience with validation build phases (e.g. Proto, EVT, DVT, or PVT).
  • Familiarity with the ChromeOS ecosystem.
  • Understanding of hardware system architecture and the technical complexities of integrating SoC architectures into consumer electronics.

You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle.

As a Technical Program Manager for Platform Bring-up, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of new hardware platform and SoC bring-up programs. You will work at the intersection of hardware, software, and firmware, collaborating with engineering teams and external partners like SoC partners, Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to deliver cutting-edge ChromeOS and Googlebook devices.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $163000 - $236000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Collaborate with external SoC vendors and ODMs while facilitating technical alignment among internal Hardware, Software, and Firmware teams to drive device strategy.
  • Identify technical risks and manage escalations, providing transparent status reports and mitigation plans to executive stakeholders and leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for platform bring-up methodologies, tools, and best practices to optimize team efficiency and technical decision-making.
