Job summary

Cheiron, an early-stage AI startup in Los Altos, CA, seeks an onsite Product role to translate concepts into engineering-ready specs. You will own the how and ensure alignment with the existing architecture as you work with product, life sciences, and engineering teams.

You will craft precise specs, acceptance criteria, and edge cases, collaborating with a life sciences team to navigate regulatory constraints and domain knowledge. The learning curve is steep and the impact is real.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of experience in product management, technical program management, software engineering, or a related technical role (internships count)
• Strong technical foundation: ability to read a codebase, reason about system architecture, and ground a spec in existing work
• Written structured technical documents (specs, design docs, architecture proposals) with clear requirements and edge cases
• Experience building in constrained environments (startup internship, research lab, side project with users)
• Fluent with AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent; using them as part of workflow
• Clear, precise writing enabling a reader to implement from the spec
• Ability to model unfamiliar domains by building a mental model before making changes
• Ability to think deeply and consider outputs from multiple stakeholder perspectives

Responsibilities

• Break a product brief into components, define relationships, and scope what goes into the build
• Write numbered feature stories with acceptance criteria, edge cases, and state transitions
• Review data models and API contracts against the existing schema; decide what to extend or refactor
• Run specs through review with engineering and life sciences teams before handoff
• Connect with life sciences for domain input and regulatory approval when needed
• Define what 'correct' looks like for AI-driven features: extraction, classification, compliance state
• Own product quality for shipped features
