Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is seeking experienced Procedure Writers to develop and revise technical procedures for tasks across dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, TN, and Pantex in Amarillo, TX. Roles require DOE Q clearance and time spent ensuring procedures meet stringent safety and quality standards.

Writers must adhere to procedural processes TPAT, Y15-232, and Y15-235, with emphasis on hazard

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with 15–20 years’ experience in technical disciplines, in addition to experience writing technical procedures in a commercial or Weapons Complex facility.
• Familiarity with regulatory and administrative requirements affecting procedures; knowledge of applicable DOE orders and standards.
• Active DOE Q clearance or ability to obtain one is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop new, revised, or modified technical procedures enabling safe and correct execution of tasks such as dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection.
• Comply with Y15-232, the Technical Procedure Process, and the Technical Procedure Authoring Tool (TPAT).
• Occasionally develop or revise administrative procedures; comply with Y15-235 and the Administrative Procedure Authoring Tool (APAT).
• Develop Enterprise procedures applicable to Y-12 and Pantex.
• Prepare and coordinate procedure reviews and comment resolution.
• Implement hazard controls, capture quality and performance data, and ensure procedures can be performed as written through verification and validation.

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. • Procedure Writers develop new, revised, or modified technical procedures which enable personnel to safety and correctly perform tasks associated with dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection.
• The writer is responsible for complying with Y15-232, Technical Procedure Process, and the Technical Procedure Authoring Tool (TPAT).
• Procedure Writers will occasionally develop or revise administrative procedures and are responsible for complying with Y15-235, Administrative Management Requirements Process, and the Administrative Procedure Authoring Tool (APAT).
• Writer is also responsible for developing Enterprise procedures applicable to Y-12 and Pantex.
• Writers prepare & coordinate procedure reviews and comment resolution.
• The Writer implements hazard controls, captures quality and performance data, and ensures that the procedure can be performed as written through verification and validation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with 15-20 years’ experience in technical disciplines in addition to experience writing technical procedures in a commercial or Weapons Complex facility. In lieu of bachelor’s degree, a technical background with 18 years’ experience in writing technical procedures in a commercial nuclear or Weapons Complex may be considered.
• Writers must be familiar with the regulatory and administrative requirements affecting procedures and must determine the technical requirements that apply to the procedures by examining DOE Orders and Standards; 60-101PD, Quality Assurance Program Description, and Y60-015, Integrated Quality Manual; Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documents; and Hazard Analysis documents.
• Active DOE Q clearance or ability to get one is required.

• Pre‑employment Drug Screen - external applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test.
• Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre‑placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
• This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen.
