Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovation is seeking a Technical Operations Engineering Co-Op in San Lorenzo, PR, for January–December 2027. The internship runs full-time (40 hours/week) and offers hands-on experience in process improvement, quality, and project execution within MedTech.

You will support continuous improvement initiatives, work under a mentor, and participate in testing, documentation, and data analysis to drive efficiency and cost reduction while learning Lean, Six Sigma, and FPX

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college and stay in good academic standing.
  • Previous internship or related project experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects to improve process efficiency, productivity, quality and cost reduction.
  • Assist with project execution using FPX, Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Participate in testing, validation and documentation activities for products, processes, equipment and materials.
  • Maintain technical and operational documentation including specs, reports and project records.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports to show project progress and results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Support development of concepts and approaches for new products or processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, environment, safety and health requirements.

  • Full time requirement (40 hours per week).
Purpose:

The Co-Op Student will support continuous improvement initiatives and business projects within the assigned department. Working under the guidance of a mentor, this role provides hands‑on experience in engineering processes, project management, process optimization, and operational excellence while contributing to projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs, shorten cycle times, and enhance overall quality.

You will be responsible for:
  • Supporting projects focused on improving process efficiency, productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Assisting with project execution using project management and continuous improvement methodologies such as FPX, Lean, and Six Sigma.
  • Participating in testing, validation, and documentation activities related to products, processes, equipment, and raw materials.
  • Maintaining technical and operational documentation, including specifications, reports, and project records.
  • Analyzing data and preparing reports to communicate project progress and results.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Assisting in the development of concepts, designs, and approaches for new products, processes, or testing methods.
  • Supporting compliance with company policies, environmental, safety, and occupational health requirements.
  • Communicating project updates, risks, opportunities, and business‑related issues to leadership when appropriate.
  • Performing additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies at an accredited university is required.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and remain in good academic standing.
  • Previous internship, co‑op, undergraduate research, or relevant project experience is preferred.
  • Leadership experience through student organizations, extracurricular activities, or community involvement is a plus.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with Minitab, Visio, Power BI, or other analytical tools is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including overtime when required.
