Job description

Michael Baker International is looking for a well-rounded Technical Manager - Highway in our Moon Township (Pittsburgh), PA office. The successful candidate should have experience with roadway design, right-of-way plan development, and preparation of contract documents for transportation construction projects. The Technical Manager will lead and manage the preparation of engineering plans, reports, technical specifications, and prepare construction estimates and schedules. The Technical Manager will also have the opportunity to manage roadway discipline tasks on a variety of projects and guide a team of technicians and engineers in developing engineering plans, reports, and analyses. The Technical Manager will utilize their knowledge and skills to support our project teams in delivery of projects through planning and design.

Responsibilities include:

  • Function as a roadway discipline task lead to guide a team of technicians and engineers to deliver exciting and challenging transportation projects in Western PA and throughout the country.
  • Communicate with the project managers and other discipline task managers on key issues and project progress.
  • Assist project managers in ensuring that project/task requirements, schedules, and budgets are met.
  • Delegate and monitor assignments to technicians and engineers to ensure timely and accurate document, drawing preparation, and project deliverables.
  • Perform Quality Control reviews of various transportation projects.
  • Prepare complex studies, design plans, right-of-way plans, construction documents, technical reports, specifications, and construction estimates.
  • Professionally represent Michael Baker International at technical meetings with agency staff, clients, and contractors.
  • Support project managers in the preparation of technical scopes of work and cost proposals.
  • Embrace opportunities to mentor and motivate less experienced employees.
  • Maintain knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering design experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Pennsylvania (or licensed in other state with intent and qualifications to apply for license in Pennsylvania).
  • Proficient computer skills in MicroStation software; OpenRoads experience is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, Bentley InRoads (and/or OpenRoads) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with hydraulic analysis, design of highway drainage facilities, and/or Erosion & Sedimentation Pollution Control is a plus.
  • Candidates with additional experience, including Project Management experience, are encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $104,977 to $181,854. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
