Job summary

Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a Software Development Technical Leader with expertise in C and C++ to guide one of our development teams in crafting high-performance software solutions. The role involves leading the software lifecycle, architecting robust designs, and mentoring engineers across ground and space systems.

You will collaborate with senior customers and SEI leadership to align technical solutions with mission needs, while spearheading

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI DoD security clearance required.
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10 years of experience; OR MS with 8 years; OR PhD with 5 years.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing complex software architectures and systems.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ software development languages.
  • Proficiency in Python for analytics and data processing.
  • Experience with developing embedded software, performance tests and interpreting results.
  • Experience with static analysis tools to improve code quality and security.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; detail-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to collaborate with U.S. Military and other government stakeholders; 25% travel.
  • Proven ability to mentor team members and lead customer engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software development projects from conception to deployment, focusing on C and C++.
  • Create and maintain design artifacts (data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, interface definitions).
  • Mentor junior team members in architecture, design, construction, and testing.
  • Create prototypes to explore new technologies and solutions.
  • Lead customer engagements to gather requirements and provide technical consultations.
  • Oversee high-visibility tasks and deliverables for government customers.
  • Utilize static analysis tools to identify security vulnerabilities and improve code quality.
