Job Summary:
The Technical/Laboratory Assistant supports sample preparation, routine testing, lab equipment maintenance, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific background and a keen eye for accuracy in data collection and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the in-house laboratory to ensure a well-functioning, efficient environment.
- Support ongoing research and quality assurance projects by maintaining laboratory equipment and ingredients.
- Calibrate and maintain instrumentation and equipment for accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct routine laboratory projects, including:
- Analyzing ingredient dry matter for moisture content.
- Measuring densities and pH levels for consistency and compliance.
- Evaluating handling characteristics of feed ingredients.
- Assessing ingredient compatibility for formulation and stability.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support cross-functional initiatives.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials.
- Basic knowledge of feed safety and quality standards for regulatory compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating effectively.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-changing environment.

- Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and environments.
- Preferred: Basic understanding of proximate analysis of feeds and laboratory instrumentation.
- Positive attitude with strong computer, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of cGMP procedures, especially record-keeping and compliance.
- Proficiency with data analysis software and strong mathematical skills, including statistics.
- Ability to interpret complex documents and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Logical/scientific thinking applied to practical and theoretical problems.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to accurate records.
Physical Demands:
- Regular sitting, detailed hand work, reaching, talking, and hearing.
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and sitting for equipment operation.
- Outdoor activities for sample collection at research facilities, farms, mills, and operations.
- Exposure to hazardous materials with proper PPE adherence.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum Associate's Degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Animal Science, Food Science, or related).
- Laboratory experience through work or education.
- Experience with formulation and feed analysis (preferred).
