Laboratory Assistant Certified - LAB Reference

Description

Summary:
Accurately evaluate specimen orders and enter clinical data into various computer systems (e.g., order entry, patient demographics, results). Identify missing or invalid data and take appropriate corrective actions. Operate automated and semi-automated equipment according to standard procedures. Communicate supply deficiencies to relevant personnel, including issues related to specimens, paperwork, database information, and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Document information accurately, including processing logs, quality control, and reagent labeling.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware.
  • Maintain and distribute laboratory supplies.
  • Package biohazard waste for disposal following standards.
  • Maintain laboratory coat supplies.
  • Order, receive, stock, ship, and track laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure equipment functions correctly or schedule repairs/replacements.
  • Track calibrations and preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of consumables and reagents.
  • Assist with disposal of biohazard and chemical waste.
  • Enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including PPE use.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills:

  • Associate of Science Degree preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry related to infectious diseases.

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting or completion of a certification program preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification or Phlebotomist Certification (PBT, RPT, CPT) or equivalent required.
  • State licensure required in Louisiana.

Work Schedule: 5 days a week, 8 hours per day

Work Type: Full Time
