The Technical Instructor and Tutor will support CASL’s new grant-funded initiative to deliver bilingual, culturally competent digital skills workshops to Chinese American and Chinese immigrant seniors. These workshops and monthly Tech Cafés are designed to help older adults use smartphones and tablets more confidently, navigate online tools, and better protect themselves against scams and fraud. By breaking down technological barriers, this role directly supports seniors in maintaining their independence, accessing essential services, and staying socially connected in today’s digital world.

Aligned with CASL’s mission to empower the community and promote self-sufficiency, this role plays a vital part in reducing the digital divide for older adults. The Instructor will review curriculum, lead workshops and tech cafés, and create an engaging, supportive learning environment where participants feel empowered, included, and respected.

Your Impact:

As a Technical Instructor and Tutor, you will:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review digital literacy curriculum and adjust content in collaboration with CASL staff as needed
  • Prepare and facilitate six (6) one-hour bilingual digital literacy workshops for seniors, offered every other month
  • Create workshop materials and tools to support learning, including culturally relevant resources
  • Develop and administer pre- and post-tests for each workshop, including follow-up assessments one quarter later
  • Coordinate scheduling with CASL staff and deliver content in a fun, accessible way
  • Conduct six (6) monthly Tech Cafés for drop-in assistance with smartphones/tablets, assessing support needs
  • Provide CASL staff with workshop attendance records, test results, and Tech Café visit logs
  • Integrate CASL-provided incentives (e.g., door prizes) to enhance participant engagement
Must Haves:Education & Experience:
  • Two to three years of professional experience delivering technical skills training to end-users; experience supporting older adults strongly preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin or Cantonese
  • Prior experience in end-user support related to smartphones, tablets, and desktop software (PC/Mac)
  • Experience working independently and managing small group instruction
Skills & Knowledge
  • Proficient in common desktop and mobile technologies (e.g., texting, email, video calling apps, online scheduling, fraud awareness)
  • Ability to explain technology concepts clearly and simply to older adults and caregivers
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • High level of initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm for community-based learning
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (e.g., standing or sitting) for extended periods while conducting workshops or assisting participants
  • Frequently operates smartphones, tablets, and standard office equipment (e.g., laptops, projectors)
  • Occasionally moves or transports light materials such as workshop handouts, devices, or incentives (typically under 20 lbs)
Environment and Scheduling:
  • This is a part-time role with a commitment of approximately 10 hours per month, including preparation, instruction, and reporting.
  • Workshops (1-2 Hours) and Tech Cafés (4 hours onsite) are offered onsite at CASL during daytime hours, preferably between 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
  • Workshops are scheduled every other month, with Tech Cafés offered in alternating months.
  • This role is grant-funded and expected to last 12 months.

Compensation:

This position offers an hourly compensation range of $25-$35 reflective of experience and qualifications .
