Job summary

Mitsubishi Power is seeking a Technical Field Advisor II, Generator Commissioning to support commissioning of gas and steam turbine generators under the direction of the site commissioning lead. The role includes mechanical commissioning of subsystems, testing, troubleshooting, and preparing documentation for turnover, with frequent travel to remote domestic and international sites.

Candidates should have power generation experience, an engineering degree, and strong analytical skills; English

Qualifications

  • Power generation experience required, preferably in industrial electrical or commissioning.
  • Knowledge of large-frame generators and related systems.
  • Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office and SharePoint for reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates core competencies: accountability, ownership, and customer focus.
  • Follow safety requirements while executing daily commissioning tasks for generators.
  • Support startup, operation, troubleshooting, inspection, testing and commissioning of generators.
  • Read machine diagrams, electrical schematics, and protection systems documentation.
  • Perform electrical testing (Hipot, Megger, DLRO, VLF) and assist with protective relays.
  • Support mechanical flushing and commissioning of lube oil, seal oil and hydrogen systems.
  • Complete documentation, certificates, drawings, and turnover reports for leadership review.
  • Provide operator training and communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality.

Role Overview

The Technical Field Advisor II, Generator Commissioning is responsible forsupporting commissioning of Mitsubishi gas and steam turbine generators while under the direction of the site Commissioning lead. Typical activities include mechanical commissioning of pump and fan driven subsystems, testing, pipe flushing, inspection, recommendation of setting/design changes, and initial plant startup and testing. This position is intended for candidates with power generation experience, preferably in industrial electrical or commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow Mitsubishi Power and site safety requirements while executing daily commissioning tasks for generators and auxiliary systems under the direction of the commissioning lead or senior engineer.
  • Support startup, operation, troubleshooting, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of large-frame gas and steam turbine generators and related auxiliary plant equipment.
  • Read and interpret machine process diagrams, function diagrams, electrical schematics, control logic, generator protection systems, and related documentation.
  • Perform or support standard electrical testing, includingHipot, Megger, DLRO, VLF, and power factor testing, and support commissioning of excitation, SFC, generator protection relays, and related systems.
  • Support mechanical flushing and commissioning of critical lube oil, seal oil, and hydrogen systems related to the generator.
  • Complete documentation, test certificates, drawings, reports, findings, non-conformance updates, and skills training logs for site turnover and commissioning leadership review.
  • Provide operator training before commercial operation; communicate effectively with staff and management while protecting confidential information andmaintainingintegrity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineeringpreferred; an equivalent combination of education anddirectly relatedfield experience will be considered.
  • Power generation experiencerequired, preferably in industrial electrical, commissioning, startup, ordirectly relatedfield environments.
  • Knowledge of large-frame generators and related systems, including transformers, ISO phase bus, GSU, seal oil, hydrogen cooling systems, generator mechanical systems, and excitation systems.
  • Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage equipment, electrical safety, NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA, IEEE, NESC, standard industrial electrical practices, generator protection relaying, calibration, electrical circuits, troubleshooting, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, electronic mail and analytical tools.
  • English languageproficiencyrequired; Spanish, Portuguese, or Japanese language skills helpful.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 90% of the year to remote domestic and international work sites.
  • Ability to meet physical job requirements including lifting up to 25-50 pounds, working at heights, in confined spaces, and in loud environments while following safety protocols.
