Job summary

PlanIT Group, LLC is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to produce and edit aerospace procedures, manuals, and specifications. You will translate complex engineering concepts into clear instructions for diverse audiences and support document illustrations and quality reviews.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering or technical communication and 6+ years in aerospace or high-tech writing, with Windchill and PLM familiarity. On-site position in Texas with strong documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or related field.
• 6+ years of technical writing in aerospace, defense, or high-tech environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Windchill (PLM) systems.
• Familiarity with ECSS, MIL-STD, or aerospace documentation standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; translate complex engineering concepts to clear instructions.
• Understanding Change Control processes and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Edit and write operating procedures, test procedures, installation procedures, and related documents.
• Edit and publish documents using Windchill and ensure configuration management is followed.
• Oversee creation of illustrative materials (drawings, diagrams, charts) and conduct quality reviews.

Job description

Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

Job Duties Include

Editing and Writing of: Operating Procedures, Acceptance Test procedures, Calibration Procedures, Installation Procedures, Test Requirements Documents, Support Review and Release processes for documents Using Windchill, Follow and Support Configuration Management for the program.

Basic REQUIRED Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or related field.
• 6+ years of technical writing experience in aerospace, defense, or hightech environments; prior work with test equipment documentation preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and PLM systems (Windchill experience required).
• Familiarity with ECSS, MILSTD, or other aerospace documentation standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear instructions.
• Understanding Change Control processes and configuration management.
