Overview

Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a part-time Technical Editor (Up to 20hrs per week) to review and edit written Human Performance Optimization (HPO) content for courses, trainings, research projects, and the Human Performance Resources by CHAMP (HPRC) and Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) websites.

This position will be in support of the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) under the Uniformed Services University department of Military Emergency Medicine. This position will be performing technical edits and development of materials similar to the following:

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Note: This site requires that the incumbent has lived in the US for three out of the past five years.


Responsibilities

  • Edit, rewrite, and proofread articles, infographics, social media and blog posts, and multimedia content for the HPRC-online.org and OPSS.org science-based health and wellness websites.
  • Edit and proofread content (articles, infographics, slide decks, speaker notes, reports) in evidence-based health and wellness course curricula.
  • Ensure content meets or exceeds the plain language requirements outlined in Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 5025.13 - "DOD Plain Language Program."
  • Collaborate with a team of subject-matter experts, authors, and graphic designers to provide improved user readability and relevant content.
  • Revises content, scripts, and reports based on editorial, technical, oversight, and end-user comments without altering the technical content to be presented.
  • Create 508-compliant versions of specified materials for website publication and assist with archiving edited final documents.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Preference for direct experience in technical editing, translation from technical language to multiple audiences and plain language writing.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and logical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multitask in support of multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive), MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard), Adobe Acrobat, and EndNote.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 public trust investigation.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a remote setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $30.87-$42.31. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, contacting your professional references, verification of previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and a department of motor vehicle (DMV) check if applicable. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
