Job summary

Gensler in Phoenix is seeking a dynamic Technical Director to lead the Flex 1 Studio, focusing on hospitality and workplace, plus other large-scale complex project types. You will guide design teams from concept through build, ensuring design excellence and technical proficiency.

As a senior architect and technical expert, you will mentor staff, promote technical design externally, coordinate with multidisciplinary consultants, and oversee QA/QC across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
• 15+ years of project experience in an architectural practice.
• Licensed or registered architect.
• Experience with Revit, Rhino, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office.
• Expert knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and green building strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate code implications to staff at all levels.
• LEED accreditation preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with contractors and subcontractors.
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; portfolio should include LEED/Living Building/ WELL/ Fitwell/ Net Zero project.

Responsibilities

• Manage client, team and project coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape and civil consultants.
• Facilitate communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and permitting officials.
• Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions for complex design and technical challenges.
• Maintain project manual and specifications.
• Oversee multiple projects and teams concurrently.
• Lead QA/QC across projects with focus on life safety and constructability.
• Ensure design excellence across all projects in the studio.
• Advocate for design quality and execution.
• Promote design resilience and integrated collaboration across disciplines.
