Job summary

Clear. is seeking a Technical Director / SME (Mechanical) for semiconductor fab and cleanroom projects in Chandler/Phoenix, AZ, with openness to Dallas, Raleigh-Durham and Conshohocken.

This front-end role defines the design basis and sets direction, not drawing delivery. You will own the mechanical concept, perform load calculations, select systems, and mentor engineers who advance concepts to detailed design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• PE license required.
• Deep experience on large-scale capital projects in facilities/industrial settings.
• Strong depth in mechanical utility systems for manufacturing environments.
• Ability to be the senior technical voice with clients and drive early-stage decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical concept and design basis for semiconductor fab and cleanroom projects.
• Perform load calculations and system selections for HVAC, water systems, exhaust and abatement, gases, and central utilities.
• Act as the senior technical voice with clients at feasibility and option studies.
• Set mechanical technical standards and review the wider team's output.
• Mentor engineers to take concepts forward to detailed design.

Our client is a global engineering, procurement and construction partner delivering some of the most complex fab and cleanroom projects being built in the US today.

This is a technical authority role, not a delivery management one. You sit at the front end - defining the design basis, setting direction, challenging assumptions before they become expensive, and handing the delivery team a concept they can build to. You are not chasing drawings through construction; you are deciding what gets designed in the first place.

What you'll be doing

• Owning the mechanical concept and design basis for semiconductor fab and cleanroom projects
• Load calculations, system selections and design philosophies across cleanroom HVAC and air systems, process cooling water, chilled water, exhaust and abatement, bulk and specialty gases, and central utility buildings
• Acting as the senior technical voice with clients at the earliest project stages, including feasibility and options studies
• Setting technical standards across the mechanical group and reviewing the wider team's output
• Mentoring engineers who take your concept forward into detailed design

What we're looking for

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; PE required
• Deep experience on large-scale capital projects in a facilities or industrial setting - fabs, cleanrooms, pharma, data centres, or comparable high-purity process environments
• Real depth in mechanical utility systems for a manufacturing environment, rather than product or R&D-side design
• The standing to be the most senior technical figure in the room with clients, contractors and consultants
• Based in or willing to relocate to the one of the locations listed at the top
