• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, SketchUp, or Inventor.

Technical Director, Scenic & Custom Fabrication

Work Arrangement: Onsite | Full Time

We are hiring a Technical Director who combines design knowledge, practical fabrication experience, and team leadership. In this newly created position, you will help designers and production teams answer the questions that determine whether a custom build succeeds!

Your work will support custom scenery, exhibits, displays, and branded environments. You will guide the technical team, improve the quality of production information, and help establish a more consistent approach to planning and costing projects.

What You Will Do

• Lead technical design staff and coordinate with creative, project management, and fabrication teams.
• Evaluate concepts and develop practical approaches to construction, assembly, transportation, and installation.
• Oversee shop drawings, material specifications, assembly details, and production documentation.
• Ensure digital fabrication files are accurate and suitable for the equipment and materials being used.
• Identify technical issues early and resolve problems throughout the build process.
• Evaluate materials, labor, equipment, and outside services to support project estimates.
• Establish drawing standards and review procedures that help production teams work efficiently.

What You Bring

• At least five years of experience designing and detailing custom fabricated environments.
• Experience leading technical designers, fabrication teams, or comparable project teams.
• A background in scenic fabrication, trade show exhibits, experiential environments, custom displays, or related work.
• Practical understanding of materials, fabrication methods, shop drawings, and CNC production workflows.
• Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, SketchUp, or Inventor.
• The ability to explain your technical decisions and collaborate with the people responsible for building your designs.
