Job summary

Gensler is seeking a Technical Designer to blend creativity with technical expertise for delivering outstanding project work in San Diego. You will lead client relationships and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and planners to ensure design intent is maintained from concept through construction.

The role requires a professional architecture degree, 7–15 years of experience, and strong public speaking skills.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture, demonstrated with a rigorous portfolio.
• Licensure preferred
• 7-15 years of relevant architectural experience, with a strong background designing multiple building typologies of varying scale.
• LEED accreditation and experience preferred
• Outstanding knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures
• Proficient and confident in public speaking, and in moderating large teams of consultants, contractors, and clients
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents

Responsibilities

• Work with contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives
• Manage client, team and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with engineering and specialty consultants
• Support communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials
• Provide design support and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts
• Lead coordination with building and planning departments to facilitate permit submissions and approvals
• Oversee the bid process, including issuing bid sets, RFI responses, and evaluating contractor proposals with clients
• Manage construction administration activities, including site visits and submittal reviews
• Drive project progress through punch list walkthroughs and final inspections to support project delivery

Your Role As a Gensler Technical Designer , your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge to help deliver outstanding project work for our clients. You have developed communication and team-building skills which have prepared you to lead project delivery. In this role, you will have opportunities to expand your existing strengths in design and technical coordination while directly leading client relationships.

What You Will Do

• Oversee the bid process, including issuing bid sets, responding to RFIs, and evaluating contractor proposals in collaboration with clients

*Compensation is based upon applicable experience and estimated range is $90,000 - $125,000 annually + bonuses + benefits.
