Job summary

Basic Resources, Inc. in New York is seeking a Technical Designer to independently guide apparel development from concept through production, covering Women’s sports bras and underwear with Men’s sleepwear coverage.

You will ensure design intent, fit, quality, and construction standards are met. This role entails partnering with cross-functional teams and overseas vendors, applying strong technical expertise in 2D patternmaking, grading, and production problem-solving to maintain brand and style

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Design or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in Technical Design.
• Advanced knowledge of garment construction, fit evaluation, 2D patternmaking, grading, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong command of grade rules and graded specifications.
• Experience owning brands or categories from development through production.
• Experience creating and managing Tech Packs throughout the product lifecycle.
• Proficiency in PLM systems and Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and MS Office.
• 3D software Browzwear is a bonus.
• Strong organizational and communication skills for cross-functional teams and overseas vendors.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage assigned brands and styles from concept through production.
• Create and maintain comprehensive Tech Packs, construction details, specs, grading, and HTM pages.
• Lead fit evaluation from prototype through TOP; identify fit, construction, pattern, and quality issues.
• Apply patternmaking skills to diagnose fit issues and communicate corrections.
• Review grading rules for accuracy, consistency, and size progression.
• Communicate corrective actions to overseas vendors and drive resolution.
• Partner with Design, Product Development, Sourcing, and Production teams.
• Manage multiple styles and seasonal calendars; meet milestones and deadlines.
• Maintain product information and technical documentation within PLM systems.
• Navigate multiple development paths with varying vendors and timelines for consistency.
• Recommend construction, pattern, and development solutions to ensure quality and efficiency.

The Technical Designer independently manages apparel development of Women's sports bras and underwear, with additional Men's sleepwear and underwear coverage. You will guide product from concept through production, ensuring design intent, fit, quality, and construction standards are achieved. This role owns assigned brands and styles, partners directly with cross-functional teams and overseas vendors, and applies strong technical expertise in fit, 2D patternmaking, grading, and production problem-solving.

As a Technical Designer, you'll have independent ownership of product development while working within a highly collaborative Technical Design team. You'll partner closely with cross-functional teams and global vendors, sharing technical knowledge and problem-solving together throughout the development process. This role offers continued growth in fit, patternmaking, grading, and technical decision-making within a team that values communication, collaboration, and shared expertise.

Responsibilities:

• Independently manage assigned brands and styles from concept through production.

• Manage multiple development paths within the same product, navigating varying vendors, constructions, and timelines to identify clear direction and maintain product consistency.
• Recommend construction, pattern, and development solutions that support quality and manufacturing efficiency.

• 7+ years' working experience in Technical Design.
• Advanced knowledge of garment construction, fit evaluation, 2D patternmaking, grading, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong command of grade rules and graded specifications.
• Proven ability to independently own brands or categories from development through production.
• Experience creating and managing Tech Packs throughout the product lifecycle.
• Proficiency in PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with 3D software such as Browzwear is a bonus
• Strong critical thinking and organizational skills; able to navigate multiple development workstreams, and determine clear next steps.
• Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills; self-directed, proactive, and effective with cross-functional teams and overseas vendors.

Annual salary range starting at $80,000+
