What we need

The Technical Control Engineer will play a hands-on role in ensuring the proper operation of the Symbotic system at our client's site. The qualified candidate will be responsible for receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end-user help requests. Additionally, they will assist in problem resolution related to operations.

What we do

The Technical Control Engineer is part of the Technical Support Operations team, collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot, prioritize, document, and resolve or escalate end-user help requests and site system issues. They are key in resolving site alarms and escalating issues impacting our robotics systems to other SMEs within Symbotic.

What you’ll do

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of plant and process safety rules, safe operating methods, and good housekeeping standards.
  2. Field incoming help requests from end-users via telephone, email, and chat.
  3. Develop help sheets and knowledge base articles for end-users.
  4. Test fixes to ensure problems are resolved.
  5. Perform post-resolution follow-ups on help requests.
  6. Conduct ongoing activities such as backups, trend analysis, I/O checks, etc., to assist with on-site issues.
  7. Read schematics, OEM manuals, and user guides to troubleshoot systems integrated with Symbotic equipment.
  8. Remotely assist site teams with troubleshooting advanced electro-mechanical issues using video conferencing and support tools.
  9. Respond to equipment downtime issues and coordinate outside resources for quick resolution.
  10. Train and develop plant electricians to troubleshoot controls related issues in PLC/Robot/HMI programs to improve automated processes.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial controls experience.
  • Basic understanding of Ladder Logic, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, and FactoryTalk View software.
  • Experience troubleshooting, replacing, and modifying PLCs, robots, HMIs, and VFDs; programming experience is a plus.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting robots such as ABB or Fanuc.
  • Knowledge of advanced sensor programming, including scanners, distance sensors, and encoders.
  • Working knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus).
  • Strong electrical skills using schematics, multimeters, megohmmeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Significant experience with DDC systems and control theory.
  • Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic drawings.
  • Willingness to travel for initial training and site support.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Our Environment

  • Up to 10% travel may be required. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive or fly to client locations.
  • Responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses for reimbursement.
