Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta seeks an experienced technical and production lead to ensure lights, sound, video, and staging equipment operate smoothly for university events. You will coordinate with SCADshow, SCAD COURT, FORTY, and other spaces to enable high-quality productions.

You will provide specialized maintenance, run show systems, and assist in festival operations, with preferred background in theater tech and a willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum two years of technical and production experience in live-event or theatrical productions.
  • Experience with ETC lighting control systems, rigging, and audio/video equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, and de-install technology for events in collaboration with internal departments.
  • Ensure compliance with venue-specific, SCAD, and industry standards across productions.
  • Represent SCADshow, SCAD COURT, and FORTY at meetings with informed proposals.
  • Perform regular equipment inventory and maintenance across locations.
  • Support SCAD TVfest, SCAD AnimationFest, and other festivals with technical operations.

Job description

As a technical and production lead for Atlanta spaces, you’ll ensure sound, lighting, video, staging, and other theater equipment is operational for special events and initiatives. SCADshow is Atlanta’s state-of-the-art theater, home to SCAD’s signature events. Just outside of SCADshow is SCAD COURT, a performance and event space that hosts stunning performances, exciting film screenings, and special activations. Nearby is FORTY, an on-campus residential community with an event space. Located in the heart of Atlanta, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film celebrates fashion as a universal language, garments as important conduits of identity, and film as an immersive and memorable medium. Down the street from SCAD FASH is SCADstory, an immersive 4D experience that takes guests on a journey through SCAD history. Your work to support these buildings and the events held there will be instrumental to the university.

To support the marketing and public relations mission, you’ll:
  • Install, operate, and de-install technology and operational needs in collaboration with internal departments to ensure proper setup and operations for events
  • Ensure compliance with venue-specific, SCAD, and industry standards across all productions
  • Act as a technical representative for SCADshow, SCAD COURT, and FORTY event space at meetings to present proposals informed by your experience and expertise
  • Complete regular inventory and maintenance of equipment across all locations
  • Assist the technical director of SCAD TVfest, SCAD AnimationFest, and the other festivals with technical operations
As it relates to SCADstory, you’ll:
  • Receive specialized training from the director of production to ensure proper maintenance and operation of the entire show system
  • Conduct daily start-up and end-of-day processes and duties
  • Complete all technical maintenance work in collaboration with the production director
  • Act as the on-site and on-call technician for any troubleshooting that may occur during operating hours for specific shifts
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least two years of technical and production experience in live-event or theatrical productions
  • Experience working with ETC lighting control systems, rigging, digital audio consoles and audio mixing, and Digital Cinema Projection Systems or another projection system
  • Working knowledge of PC or Windows-based computer software and an understanding of theater technical equipment and processes
  • Ability to lift more than 50 Ibs.
  • Ability to frequently work nights and weekends
Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience
  • At least two years of experience or training in technical maintenance of computerized lighting systems, audio and projection systems, and complex theatrical lighting fixture maintenance.
  • At least two years of experience or training with automated show systems (e.g., show control systems, audio systems, video systems, and projection systems)
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
  • Valid driver's license
Travel required:
  • Less than 10%
Work hours:

The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
