Job summary

Job description

GFT is seeking a Technical Agreement Specialist to join our Roadway Team in Schaumburg, IL. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at the IDOT District 1 office.

GFT's Transportation team focuses on transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. This role involves working on highways, bridges, and traffic engineering to deliver resilient, sustainable design and construction solutions for modern multimodal roadway systems.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

This position is a full‑time (40 hours) Program Management role, leading preparation and coordination of roadway agreements between IDOT and municipal and agency partners for Phase I and Phase II projects. The role requires independent work and coordination with engineers and technicians to complete project agreements.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead coordination of roadway plan drawings, quantities, and related costs for items of local participation, maintenance, and jurisdiction.
  • Provide direction to Project Engineers and Staff Engineers regarding expected results.
  • Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  • Make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represent the organization in meetings to resolve questions and plan work.
  • Follow IDOT agreement policy and communicate it to staff and public partners; understand and interpret engineering design plans and specifications.
  • Work in a Microsoft computer environment.
  • Manage workload and any changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of related in‑field experience, including work directly or as a consultant for IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, Chicago DOT, Cook County Department of Transportation & Highways, or local counties and municipalities, and with federally funded projects.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a similar ABET‑accredited field.
  • E.I.T. certification.
  • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and ability to work well in a team on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Previous experience coordinating railroads and inspecting roadway/railroad work in the field is preferred.
  • Prior highway, drainage, construction inspection, track, traffic signal, and/or lighting experience is preferred.
  • Illinois driver’s license.
Preferred skills:
  • Professional Engineering license or similar experience.
  • Background in preliminary engineering, plan development, or construction engineering.
Compensation:

Salary range: $85,000 – $125,000, dependent on experience and location.
