Job summary

Liebherr USA is seeking a seasoned crane technician to answer service calls and support LNC Technicians in job prep and issue follow-up. You will diagnose and repair mobile equipment such as crawler cranes and drilling rigs, with travel up to 80% domestically and internationally.

The role requires 2–3 years of crane tech experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to obtain a passport and driver's license. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a technician in the crane business.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and replacement of damaged or worn parts.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform routine maintenance work on equipment.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Complete assigned paperwork as instructed.
  • Oversee the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods.
  • Promote a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self follow established safety procedures.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after shop repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Take service calls and help resolve incoming issues such as emergency calls, technical questions, operational problems.
  • Assist and support all field technicians by scheduling flights, organizing hotels and rental cars, providing relevant jobsite information (address, contact person, etc.) and job information (blueprints, etc.).
  • Take part in the rotating duty for the 24‑hour service hotline (once installed).
  • Set a positive example in punctuality and professional demeanor by respectful communication with all levels of staff, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and promoting safety regulations and all other company programs and teaching those values to the US Service technicians.

Answer incoming service calls, assist LNC Technicians with preparing for a job, questions arising on the job and following up on open issues after the job. Manage all shop diagnosis, adjustment, repair or overhaul of mobile equipment such as crawler cranes, drilling rigs, etc.

  • Promote a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self follow established safety procedures.

Competencies
Education and Experience
  • High school graduate or GED. At least two to three years of experience as a technician in the crane business.
Additional Requirements
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Ability to work overtime as well as on weekends or on‑call duty.
