Job description

At Simplyhealth, we're on a mission to improve access to healthcare for all in the UK. As a Technical Accountant, you'll play a key role in ensuring our financial reporting is accurate, well controlled and compliant with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements. You'll act as a trusted technical expert within Finance, helping the business understand the financial implications of key decisions while supporting robust governance and reporting practices.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with commercial insight and business partnering. You'll work closely with colleagues across Finance, auditors, actuaries and senior stakeholders, providing guidance on complex accounting matters, supporting month-end and year-end activities, and delivering meaningful financial analysis that helps drive decision-making across the organisation.

You'll also have the opportunity to influence how Finance operates, helping to improve processes, strengthen controls and make better use of technology, data and emerging automation tools.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing technical accounting guidance and preparing technical papers on complex accounting and regulatory matters.
  • Supporting the production of accurate management accounts, journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
  • Leading balance sheet reviews, financial analysis and variance reporting.
  • Maintaining a strong financial control environment and supporting governance processes across Finance.
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and planning activities, including cash flow forecasting and balance sheet planning.
  • Producing reporting and insight packs for senior stakeholders, committees, executive leadership and the Board.
  • Supporting statutory reporting, audit activity and regulatory submissions.
  • Partnering with Commercial Finance, FP&A and operational teams to provide financial insight and challenge.
  • Driving continuous improvement across financial processes, data quality and reporting.
  • Leveraging tools such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, Excel and emerging AI-enabled solutions to improve analysis and reporting.

We're committed to providing a recruitment experience that is fair, inclusive and accessible for everyone. We want every candidate to have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills, experience and behaviours that will help them succeed at Simplyhealth.

This is an Andover-based role with regular attendance at our Hampshire head office, supported by our smart working approach and flexible remote working arrangements. Some UK travel and overnight stays may be required.

If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll be happy to support you. We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive and make a positive impact.

We're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded finance professional who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing stakeholders and turning data into meaningful insight. You'll be confident operating in a regulated environment and comfortable working with both finance and non-finance colleagues.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:
  • A recognised finance qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Experience preparing technical accounting papers, management accounts and statutory accounts.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and confidence supporting complex accounting judgements and reporting requirements.
  • Experience delivering month-end close activities, reconciliations, journals and financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide clear, actionable insight to stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence using finance systems and reporting tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI or similar platforms would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build credibility across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and driving positive change.

Most importantly, you'll be a collaborative and curious finance professional who enjoys improving processes, strengthening controls and making a meaningful contribution to business performance.
