Job description

Overview

The Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group develops innovative undersea and undersea-enabled capabilities for transition to operational systems of the US Navy and other DoD sponsors. Focus areas include acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, undersea networks, autonomous systems, and advanced signal processing algorithms. The group performs rigorous systems analyses, develops system architectures, and builds prototypes to demonstrate viability and effectiveness of new concepts, capabilities, and processing techniques. The group provides undersea domain and technology expertise to inform and motivate novel cross-domain concept development.

The Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group is seeking a candidate to contribute to the development and evaluation of undersea defense systems. The position involves areas such as signal processing and detection, parameter estimation, autonomy, and model development for evaluating algorithms and architectures. The technical staff will collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team to identify technology needs, develop candidate solutions, and quantify performance. The role includes learning about new technology and the undersea mission, identifying a growth path toward increased technical contributions and project leadership, and communicating with both technical and non-technical peers and sponsors.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team to identify technology needs and develop candidate solutions for undersea defense systems.
  • Evaluate algorithms and architectures by quantifying performance and contributing to model development and autonomy concepts.
  • Learn about new technology and the undersea mission, with a growth path toward increased technical contributions and project leadership as desired.
  • Communicate with a variety of audiences including technical and non-technical peers and sponsors.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Oceanographic Engineering, or a similar technical field. In lieu of a PhD, MS with 3 to 5 years of experience will be considered.
  • Experience with algorithm-development software (e.g., MATLAB or Python, C, C++).
