Position Summary

The Cardiac Monitor Technician, under the direction of the Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager, provides continual monitoring of the patient's heart rate and rhythm, performs daily maintenance of telemetry equipment, and performs tasks related to the monitoring of heart rates and rhythms.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• High School Graduate or equivalent

Experience

• One-year acute care experience
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently

License/Registration/Certifications

• BLS certification
• Certificate of successful completion of the arrhythmia course

• Continuously observe monitors and document patient’s rhythm on flow sheets every eight hours, including date, time, rate, rhythm, PR interval, QRS duration, rhythm interpretation, and ST analysis
• Ensure alarms are always turned ON; report mechanical issues promptly
• Immediately report life-threatening rhythms or significant changes to the nurse
• Notify RN when procedures such as epicardial wire removal or pacemaker interrogation are performed
• Clean individual telemetry units after each use
• Admit and discharge patients from the system promptly
• Properly dispose of completed flow sheets and patient records
• Maintain adequate supplies of monitoring equipment
• Review rhythm strips and patient condition with nurses regularly
• Perform other duties as assigned
