The Role: Tech Lead – Web & Application Development

SmartMark is seeking an experienced Tech Lead – Web & Application Development to own and evolve our web and application platforms. This is a hands‑on leadership role for a senior developer who can architect, build, and maintain modern digital experiences while setting technical direction and best practices.

You will serve as the technical authority for SmartMark’s web and application ecosystem—balancing clean architecture, performance, security, and maintainability—while partnering closely with strategy, creative, and client‑facing teams. The ideal candidate is both a strong individual contributor and a trusted technical leader who can guide decisions, mentor others, and ensure long‑term platform health.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of SmartMark’s web and application platforms
• Own and evolve WordPress‑based sites, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and clean custom implementations
• Develop and maintain modern front‑end and back‑end systems, delivering reliable, high‑quality digital experiences
• Architect and implement cloud‑hosted solutions using AWS, including hosting, deployment, monitoring, and system administration
• Design, build, and maintain databases and data integrations to support content, applications, and analytics
• Build and support web and mobile applications, including React and React Native–based solutions
• Collaborate closely with creative, communications, and strategy teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Establish and uphold development standards, documentation, and best practices
• Troubleshoot complex issues across the stack and proactively improve system reliability and performance

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on experience with WordPress, including custom theming, plugins, and HTML/CSS‑based digital communications
• Solid front‑end and back‑end development experience
• Experience with AWS and cloud‑based hosting, systems administration, and deployment workflows
• Database design and development experience
• Experience supporting or developing applications across iOS and Android environments
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of technical outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with native mobile application development (iOS and/or Android)
• Experience serving as a technical lead or senior developer guiding architecture and implementation decisions
• Familiarity with performance optimization, security best practices, and scalable system design
• Experience working in consulting, agency, or multi‑client environments

Compensation Range: Approximately $90,000–$100,000 base (flexible based on experience and fit)
